Book Description

April 15, 2000
For more than 100 years, controversy has continued over the question of the origin of man and the world in which he lives. Like some other controversies from the past, this one will end when technology reaches the point of being able to provide a clear answer.

We are now at that point.

The advent of modern genetics, coupled with refinement of the fossil record and the concepts of modern computer technology, are now combining to point the way clearly towards the origin of the species.

Science is at last beginning to close the gap.

The ending to this controversy will be a surprise to some, but in an historical perspective it should not be surprising at all. To understand why this is so, let us step backward in history for a moment.

Most of the early geologists and many who followed would not be surprised at the outcome. Copernicus, Newton, Pasteur, Joule, Kelvin, Faraday, and probably Galileo himself would not be surprised. Darwinism interrupted some good science.

The Tree of Life and the Origin of the Species traces the logical progression from the geological record to the new Tree of Life Model. It also contains a commentary on the first nine chapters of the Bible, showing the stunning match between Scripture and the fossil record, and between Scripture and the expanding universe, introducing a partly new theory of solar system and moon origin en route. The knot of ancient human history is partly untied. Pointers to possible new areas of research are provided.

You are invited to evaluate a new creation model for the 21st Century. In doing so, the reader will have the opportunity to join hands in some measure with the personal philosophy of pioneers great names in science such as Joule, Faraday, Lord Kelvin, Sir Isaac Newton, and many other besides. Science near its highest potential! Science built upon objective observation! Science to give renewed confidence!

Science to lead mankind upwards into a new millennium!

About the Author

Mr Philip Bruce Heywood was born in the old gold mining town of Cracow, in country Queensland, Australia, 1953. He achieved - he says with some difficulty - a B.Sc.(hons) at the University of Queensland, perhaps because the staff of that fine institution took pity on him.

Although not a ready learner, he nevertheless did acquire a great respect for the science of Geology, along with an implicit trust in the reliability of the geological record and those who first brought these discoveries to light. He then worked for three years as a geologist, publishing a few minor and obscure borehole records in the Queensland Government Mining Journal.

The privilege of being able to study thousands of metres of drill core fresh from the earth reinforced to him the reliability of geological science and those who founded it. Being unsuited to office work he then tried farming: In the process of farming he tried some very part-time teaching. While part-time teaching, he tried to teach the subject of 'Origins'. Being altogether confused on this topic he asked the Almighty for guidance and believed that he would get it.

And thus he has seen things which have taken him to his knees in awe and wonder. He counts himself amongst the most privileged of people, if only because of the awesomness of it all! He feels that if an amateur such as he can understand it, every man can certainly understand it! At every stage Mr Heywood unsuccessfully tried to give the message and materials to others to use, preferring personal anonymity.

His hope and earnest desire in publishing these materials is 1) to bring honour and Glory to the great God; 2) to provide a real and lasting benefit to all who study these materials in sincerity and, 3) to encourage a renewed throwing off of superstition and ignorance, ushering in a new golden age of science.

4.0 out of 5 stars God, geological science and common sense, May 9, 2000

This review is from: The Tree Of Life & The Origin Of The Species (Paperback)
If Christianity seems unreasonable and the Bible appears as a barren bed of 'Thou shalt's' and 'Thou shalt not's'then this book could reawaken your interest in both. It treats the Bible as a confirmation of all of life which can be explored and enjoyed.

It is a most extraordinary integration of geological science, God and a farmer's common sense. The God of this book is sublimely transcendent yet part of every cell of matter, the ultimate, 'eternal, unchanging reference point'(p4). The book is logical and biblical without being limited by literality. For example, in relation to the question of the length of time taken for God to create the universe, it says: 'God did not work to the sun (it did not illumine the earth for the first three days!). He concluded each day when his purposes for that day were fully complete.'

This is a readable, easily understood alternative to some of the extremes of the argument about the origin of the universe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creation, Science and Scripture, October 12, 2000

This review is from: The Tree Of Life & The Origin Of The Species (Paperback)
As part of the debate on the origins of the universe and the development of life on earth, an on-going and sometimes heated affair, Philip Heywood brings a different perspective. As a geologist, he has done a considerable amount of work on the fossil record. As he read the story of creation in the book of Genesis, he was struck by its similarity to the fossil record. In his book he gives considerable space to examining this similarity (Part 2 Chap 1). The reader is introduced to the concept of scientific creation. Because God is timeless, Philip argues our concept of a day would be quite meaningless and creation should be seen as days in the sight of God. This to me was an important insight and enabled me to make the link that explains the problem with 'days'. Philip also examines the concept of evolution as it is presently taught, and, by using examples such as the horse he challenges the widespread assumptions on the origin of life itself. This is a thought-provoking part of this book. As a Christian, Philip has sought to give a fresh interpretation to scripture. As a fellow Christian, I found his work to be thought-provoking. To a layman, his account of creation is biblically correct, and he has been able to sort out many of the problems I have encountered in studying this part of scripture. By suggesting that a species can exist before it grows because it is a bundle of information, Philip opens up a whole new perspective on some of the puzzling issues in this debate. There were many areas I found challenging and interesting. Some were his explanation of how the moon came into existence (p54-68) and the process by which carbon was laid down in the earth and today is being released. Philip makes the relevant point that God was and still is intimately involved in His creation. He is intimately involved with each one of us, and gives us a reason and purpose for living. This needs to be widely taught in our schools, churches and families. I commend this book as a serious study. As a former teacher librarian, I would recommend it be placed on library shelves and that schools should at least look at the text and not condemn it out of hand. In an era where our young generation is questioning the very basis of scientific rationalism and searching for spiritual meaning in life, this book deserves study.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book to further human understanding, June 8, 2000

If you are at all confused about life, the universe and everything else associated with it then this is The book.

This book takes your mind on a journey from God and the origin of the Earth, with geological facts, to the most modern of all technological advances through the sciences.

The author offers challanges for many inquistiive minds to join a journey in support of the what I read to be a significant Biblical foundation of our world.

This new model for the origin of species proposed in this book is definately as founded as any other model so far given to us. So who knows where this revelation may lead?

Thank goodness there is a plain English book to shed light on such a difficult area!
