5.0 out of 5 stars What a great idea!
This is such a great idea, and it works very well!

I fill this bag up once a week (it drains overnight and is usually low or empty the next day) and it waters slowly, so the water gets into the soil deep, rather than just running off (as it did when I tried to use a sprinkler to water the tree). It's easy to fill (just shove a hose in the red filler hole),...

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with all landscape profiles
The product was much larger than expected, and turned out to be too large for our 2" caliper young trees. Both trees were planted with mounds, and are staked. The Treegator needs a 38" diameter flat circle in order to drain properly. That's larger than both the mulch pile and the distance between stakes, so we can't use this without major modifications. Which is a...

This is such a great idea, and it works very well!

I fill this bag up once a week (it drains overnight and is usually low or empty the next day) and it waters slowly, so the water gets into the soil deep, rather than just running off (as it did when I tried to use a sprinkler to water the tree). It's easy to fill (just shove a hose in the red filler hole), and I have had no problems with the emitters (there are two of them on the underside) getting clogged or anything.

Within the first 10 days of using this bag, I noticed new growth on the tree (after two weeks of nothing since transplanting it), and it's been growing steadily ever since.

If you want a convenient, stress-free way to water a newly established tree, that will help it snap out of its newly-transplanted blues, this is a great solution. I'll probably keep using it until the tree is too big to fit inside the center ring (my tree's about 1.5" now, so it has a ways to go before it won't fit in the 4" aperture).

They sell similar things for tomato plants, and I'm seriously considering one now.

The Treegator needs a 38" diameter flat circle in order to drain properly. That's larger than both the mulch pile and the distance between stakes, so we can't use this without major modifications. Which is a shame because I would really rather use this than a slow running hose.

What this product does is pretty simple, the surprise is how handy it is to have one. Definitely nice to have if you are like me and forget to turn off the hose you left on the tree. Some notes FWIW: In sandy soils, this is a way to get much more water to the tree because the delivery is over hours. Also, vs. the other one (the Original Treegator, which I have used as well) the low height lets you use it on young trees with low branches and it avoids any leaning against the tree, plus it is not an eyesore in a residential landscaping setting. Between this and the Original, this is the one I use all the time. There are only 2 outlets on the bottom, so it helps to rotate it before each fill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plant-saver, July 3, 2007

Treegator Jr. works exactly as I hoped & saves my sanity: No problem remembering to fill it once a week, it drips out slowly, keeping a young Witch Hazel moist enough to survive in a spot that has no other water source.

5.0 out of 5 stars watering made easy, March 10, 2009

This is a handy product. We have a large yard and our irrigation system is not well directed. The treegator ensures my newly planted trees will get the water they need. BE sure the surface is level so that the bag will empty all the water.

We have a wide-open sunny area with 20 or so 3-year or younger trees. We had about 60 days with no rain and these poor guys were going downhill. We first bought five gators and within a couple of weeks things were looking much better. We ordered ten more, what can I say, they work. It takes about 10 minutes to completely fill each one so I've got two hours twice a week dedicated to beautiful trees.

5.0 out of 5 stars Young Fruit Tree Watering, September 13, 2009

I have a veg garden that I tend to closely, but sometimes I forget about our young fruit trees. The Tree Gator has helped them get the water they need and our cherries & apples were healthier looking this year than in the past. I started out with one Tree Gator a couple of years ago, but added two more this year (one for each tree) because the first one worked so well.

We've been using this now for a few weeks on our newly planted elm tree and it works great. It's low profile is perfect for our garden and it works just a described. No issues.

As we're in the middle of an extreme drought, and subject to water restrictions, this has been a great find. We're in a new home and the ground under the sod layer is very hard, so the sprinkler system and hand water tends to run off toward lower areas--often to the neighbor's yard. The slow release gives the plants a chance to get their fair share. The issue of un-level ground, which we have, is not too hard to compensate for by giving thought to the location of the water exit valves--1) both on an even plane and propping up the low side of the bag, or 2) placing one valve on the lowest level so it will completely empty. For leveling purposes one can use mulch, or what has helped me out is an oversized dustpan which, when upside down, becomes a large wedge with a handle. Works great. Of course, it depends on the degree of leveling necessary. I bought one Treegator Junior Pro, which I rotate around from trees to shrubs, but have the regular Treegator on order. The Junior is nice in that it has a low profile and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb in the front yard. I have placed it over some ground cover that is close to the trees and it hasn't adversely affected either the Gator or the plants, that I can tell. Once the bag is empty, it gets moved relatively soon. I guess I'll have to use a soaker hose on the mature trees--which we are being cautioned to water, as the lack of water causes them to become very brittle, and break. Can't have that. I highly recommend this product. One thing though, I called the company with a question, and my call was never returned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, June 7, 2011
This review is from: Treegator Junior Pro 15-Gallon Slow Release Watering Bag for Trees and Shrubs (Lawn & Patio)
I live in North Texas and even before our current drought it was tough to get trees and bushes to really take root despite watering aggressively with the hose and/or sprinkler system. Once I started using the tree gator jr, my Magnolia and Crepe Myrtle started thriving, and I'm using a lot less water. The durability of the product is very impressive, although I still move it out of the way for mowing just in case, and the designers really did a good job thinking through the design to allow for easy filling/closing.

In addition to the good quality of the product, I was particularly pleased to learn it was made in America. Personally, I'm tired of sending my money to China, and commend the owners of Tree Gator for both the quality of their product and for keeping production in the USA.
