5.0 out of 5 stars It IS their best!
Begging to differ with the Canadian reviewer, this definitely is their best album. Just about every song on 'Treehouse' sticks in your head with melodies most bands would kill for, with very tasty Byrdsian guitar strumming. Their other albums have more keyboards than this one (which, in itself is alright), and this is just classic guitar pop, pure and simple.

2.0 out of 5 stars What the Hell?
When I first listened to "Now and Again," I thought it was one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. Each song was worth listening to with a great hook. The band also have a great sound. So, I was excited to get "Treehouse," expecting at least some of the greatness of "now and Again." I was disappointed. Gone are the hooks, the sound,...

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, earthy guitar pop, September 26, 1998

The Grapes of Wrath are a sadly lamented Canadian group of the late 80's to early 90's. This is their second recording, and although it is not their best (1989's Now and Again and 1991's These Days both surpass it), it shows the band's talent for melodic, quality music. The standout track is "Peace of Mind"; a rousing number that has one singing from start to finish. Anyone who likes Blue Rodeo, R.E.M., the Sundays and Oasis should give this a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Well Done, July 5, 2005
This review is from: Treehouse (Audio CD)
This group has such a unique energy. It's a little like REM, but really it's own sound. All the songs on the CD are very well produced, and I'm surprised this group hasn't had the commercial success it deserves.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favourite albums of all time, July 17, 1999

TreeHouse is a solid album from one of the best and most under-rated bands to come out of Canada in a long time. It's a shame that groups like this have to break up. If you are into melodic, acoustically driven sounds, make sure to make this album a part of your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Owning, July 6, 1999

I think that ANY Grapes of Wrath is worth buying, owning, and enjoying. They're not songs that will fade with time. They're Eternal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure magic..., June 17, 2003

Very few albums are close to perfect... but this is one of them. It's astonishing how much this band grew between their debut album and 'Treehouse'. As mentioned before, this is jangle-pop at its finest combined with gorgeous vocal harmonies. The three singles 'O Lucky Man', 'Backward Town' and especially 'Peace of Mind' are fine examples of this... but what pushes this album over the edge is the quality of the rest of the album... 'At Your Soul' is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard anywhere from any band. In my opinion, 'Treehouse' and 'Now & Again' are essential to any music collection. Check them out and get to know one of the most gifted bands ever to come out of Canada.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favs as well, February 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Treehouse (Audio CD)
This album is one of my all-time favorites. It is "jangle-pop" at its finest. I have two of GOW's albums (also "These Days") and this is more consistent (and more jangly) than the other. "Lucky Man" got some airplay in about 1989 on some alternative stations, but that's all I've ever heard of this band. Luckily, I liked the sound of that song enough to take a chance on the album - within weeks it was on my favs list. I especially like "Very Special Day" and "At Your Soul".

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Pop, April 24, 2001

I was lucky enough to see these guys in Athens,Georgia in late 1987. They opened for a band that was far less talented and played for a total of six people. The show was fantastic and the memory is still clear today. The catchy acoustic guitar and beautiful harmonies on this album are brilliant. It's a bit like R.E.M in their pop mode and a lot like the Gin Blossoms sound of their first album (although much better). It's a shame that these guys didn't tour more in the southern U.S. or get more radio play. They could have saved the world from the pop garbage that was out in the late 80's and early 90's.
