Inspiring Look at What Treehouse Designs Have Come To,
By
This review is from: Treehouse Living: 50 Innovative Designs (Hardcover)
Alain Laurens and the Team at La Cabane Perchee Company are true Masters of their crafts. The Treehouses crafted and beautifully illustrated in the book defy the imagination. I had no idea treehouse building had developed to this stage. I am just beginning to develop the skills necessary to design and build high-end treehouses for people to live in and enjoyed seeing what is possible. Wish there were more details on the actual construction; especially the out-of-this-world staircases. Hope to see future books from these people, especially if they give more How-To information.

A guide to the treehouses of La Cabane Perchee,
By Michael A. Duvernois (Minneapolis, MN United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Treehouse Living: 50 Innovative Designs (Hardcover)
These folks have been building impressive, complex, and quite striking treehouses for many years and across Europe. No nails enter the trees and the natural forms of the trees give rise the the forms of the treehouse. They range from sleeping platforms to guesthouses, playrooms and studies. They're sometimes whimsical and always reflect an admiration of the natural world.
The woodworking is superb and the photography of it is quite good. The text adds considerable information as to the wishes and needs of the clients for whom these treehouses are built. Construction how-to level details are not present, and really would be extremely difficult to use since each tree and therefore each treehouse varies considerably. I think an accomplished do-it-yourselfer could get a lot of ideas from the book, but would also recognize the need for some serious engineering thoughts for some of these designs.

This is a coffee table book,
This review is from: Treehouse Living: 50 Innovative Designs (Hardcover)
This book has photos and drawings of treehouses built by La Cabane Perchee. It was probably created as a marketing tool because as other reviewers have written, it does not provide instruction on how to build the treehouses. Many of the designs were slightly similar. Finally, I would have liked some details about the safety of some of the houses; they seemed to be perched precariously on branches in spite of slim wooden supports.

There are better books and better ideas,

I was excited to get this book out from the library but now that i've looked through it a couple of times (there's almost no text and what there is is not useful) i am disappointed. Yes, so all the houses are built by the same team so they pretty much all look the same. And for that matter the designs of the houses are traditional and uninspiring. I am tired of so much wood. Its not an aesthetic i like. I like a variety of materials. What is innovative about these houses is the construction method but they give nothing away. There are only some pictures that show the innovation but i have concerns about it. The authors make a big deal of not putting nails into the tree or cutting off limbs but they put a brace around the trunk which would restrict growth and in the long run, ringbark it and kill it, i think, unless they have somehow factored in room for growth. Often where they have not cut off branches, they look to be major obstructions to crossing the room which would fast become annoying and it wouldn't surprise me if the buyers of these houses, get the chainsaw out not too long after buying the house. There is no information to help you design and build your own house. The nicest thing about this book, is the drawings. Most of the houses have very high winding staircases which i find unappealing and wouldn't want to have to climb up. Its jsut as well these houses are not to be lived in, despite the title of the book. There's no kitchen or bathroom shots. These are just folly's, somewhere to sleep for the weekend, or a guest room.

I found the book quite interesting. However, if you're like me who want to prepare a project with my son to build the tree house in a redwood tree, this book may not be helpful. Besides, it does not have the details or construction plans.

all the treehouses in this book are very well built but there re all from a same company that actually made the book.
so that means that there are all very similar in the way there are made witch makes it no so interesting. with a title like that you expect to see some diversity at least. It s bassically a compilation of rich people that had there treehouse built by this companie. Not much you can use if you are a someone with a limited credit and wants to do it on your own.

Beautiful Ideas But Ideas Only....,
By
This review is from: Treehouse Living: 50 Innovative Designs (Hardcover)
My daughter and I flipped through this book at our local bookstore yesterday. There were lots of beautiful designs and the pictures are wonderful but that's all the book has. There are no plans or building information. It was fun to look at and gave us some good ideas for her future treehouse but we chose not to buy it, and I only gave it 3 stars, due to the lack of useful information.
