Describes the different types of trees and plants that grow in the layers of the rain forest, the fruits, nuts, and vegetables they provide, and what threatens their survival.

Gr 2-4-Pirotta provides a basic introduction to the structure and ecology of tropical rain forests. Colorful photos of the plants, animals, and people of these regions amplify the text. However, any collection with books such as Gail Gibbons's Nature's Green Umbrella (Morrow, 1994) or Jonathan Grupper's Destination: Rain Forest (National Geographic, 1997) will find little reason to add this title unless demand for material on the topic is exceptionally high.-Kathy Piehl, Mankato State University, MN
