Product Description

The Trek Light Double Hammock represents the perfect blend of comfort and function in an extremely lightweight and portable design. The Double Hammock isn't just about fitting two people (though you can certainly do that too). If you're planning to sleep in your hammock on a camp trip, napping in the yard or even as a full time bed at home, the Double is designed to be the best hammock for a full night's sleep. The key to sleeping in a hammock comfortably is to lay at an angle across it so you're able to lie flat - the Double gives you all the room you need to lie flat and comfortable for a healthy hammock experience. If you do like to share your hammock with a friend the Double won't let you down. Even better, the hammock conforms to your body so you won't be swallowed up if you're using it alone, but there's always plenty of room for two. The Double hammock holds up to 400lbs and only weighs slightly over a pound (20oz) in the pouch. When packed, it's scarcely bigger or heavier than the Trek Light Gear Single Hammock and provides you with the best possible hammock experience at home or on the trail.

I'm 74 years old and have all the usual muscle problems that go with that as well as arthritis. Sleeping in a normal bed was getting to be a full night of trying repeatedly to find a spot that didn't hurt. Never did find one! Going to a hammock never occurred to me. Maybe desperation had something to do with it, but the idea finally came and after doing a bunch of research, I bought this one. It took a few days to get used to sleeping in one, and maybe I'm not there yet because it still feels like a new experience, but what a wonderful experience!
Every night now, all night long, no matter which position I get into, there's no pain. This is the most comfortable thing I've ever put myself into, bar none, and that includes from way back when I was still young and (should have been able) able to sleep on a bed of nails.
I can't recommend this enough. I don't go camping with it, the hooks are in my ceiling to get the correct spacing, and I did have to make a bottom quilt for when the air conditioning was on, but that works great and I sleep like a babe.
Go get one, you'll love it.

First, a description of what you get: The double hammock is long enough and wide enough and sturdy enough for me to sleep in it comfortably at 6'5", 400 lbs, and a 54 inch waist. The hammocks are very light, in fact, if I had to say the design was aimed at one thing, it is that it is light weight. I use these to camp in, and even though they are only rated to hold my weight, they also handle the weight of my down sleeping bag, my sweat soaked down pillow, my mosin nagant rifle, my cell phone, and my wallet, without a problem (bears can be a problem where I camp). The material breathes fairly well: this means that if you lay in one on a cool day, your back will turn to ice, as if the hammock actually sucks all the heat out of the surface of your body that is touching it, so keep this in mind. The silvers look pretty damn silvery, any more and they would be downright reflective.

Second, a comparison: there are other hammocks with more features to them: built in cover from rain, different methods of entry, more attachment materials that come with the hammock, a second layer of the hammock so you can slip a sleeping pad or a bunch of leaves in between the two layers for insulation, etc etc. Buy the hammock that is right for your needs. But the Trek light hammock is the most SIMPLISTIC design, and therefore also just about the lightest, when you consider how big the double really is. On a warm day, this is EXACTLY what you want. If you are an ultra light hiker, this is EXACTLY what you want. Any time that weight matters, and you either don't need other features at all, or have some other way of reproducing them, this is the hammock you want stuffed in a waterbottle sized pouch on your back, or laced onto your backpack, or clipped onto your belt, etc etc.

We are new converts to the hammock way.

Our 14 year old son needed a new bed as well as our 5 year old daughter. As I entered the mattress store I got a good dose of perspective, the chemical smell. I pondered the implications of that a bit and started reading up on mattresses and quickly came to the conclusion that a brand new mattress was not a 'fresh' nor clean sleep experience for anyone breathing in chemical vapor all night and over time the accumulation of, well, everything your mattress accumulates over time. Yuck. I read up on organic or bio friendly mattresses and quickly realized my dilemna, $1800 for two twins, cha-ching!

Undaunted, I started looking into alternative sleeping 'beds' and found a blog post, Sleeping in a Hammock: Your Complete Guide. After reading that and all relevant links I knew we had to try it. The Trek Light Gear site was the first hammock site I visited (due to the guide) and I was intrigued. However, I was concerned that the parachute fabric/feel would not lend itself well to the coziness you associate with your bed so I opted to try a Mayan hammock (supposedly super comfy) and a brazilian hammock for both kids. Regrettably, both hammocks felt stiff and scratchy even though constructed of cotton materials and they felt constrictive.

Back to square one, we purchased this popular double hammock and achieved sleeping nirvana. We all preferred the Trek Light Hammock for several reasons: Surprisingly, the smoothness of the fabric makes it feel 'friendlier' to your skin and it doesn't grab your clothes when you move around like a conventional bed or cloth hammock. You don't sweat in it like a conventional bed, it really does breathe and because it is an allergen free sleep my son doesn't wake up all congested anymore.

Trek Light is the best best best hammock. At first, I was skeptical at how durable it'd be...especially when it weighs a mere 20oz.

Suffice to say that after taking it out for it's first trial, everyone at the picnic fought to take turns using it. Needless to say, I've now purchased two additional pieces and another for a gift. It's perfect for backpackers, camping, picnicking, what have you...best of all, at 20oz, you can throw it in anywhere for easy transport. It takes no room up at all!

Set up takes a couple of minutes; the hardest part is finding the trees/campsite ;)

I still use my original piece that I've had for about 3yrs and it's still as sturdy and great looking as the first day that I used it. You will not be disappointed.
