Book Description

November 1, 1998
A new edition of John Guzzwell's, Trekka Round the World. Long out-of-print, this international classic is the story of John's circumnavigation on his 20-foot yawl Trekka. During his voyage John leaves Trekka to crew for the Smeatons aboard Tzu Hang, and off Cape Horn they survive a pitchpole. In a new epilogue Guzzwell recounts his experiences and sailing adventures since the book first appeared in the 1960s; included are previously unpublished photos and a foreword by America's renowned bluewater sailor-author Hal Roth.

John Guzzwell updates his classic in this entirely new edition with previously unpublished anecdotes and photographs. Included are John's recent accomplishments in his Endangered Species, in which he competed in the 1998 Singlehanded TransPac Race.

About the Author

John Guzzwell, one of the world's great singlehanded sailors, was born in England and grew up in the Channel Islands where he spent most of his time on and around boats. John and his family were interned in Germany during World War II. Afterward, John learned the profession of boat joiner and then emigrated to British Columbia. At the age of 22, he began construction of Trekka, the boat in which he was to make his voyage around the world. John now makes his home in Washington where he builds custom boats. He still sails, and recently completed the Singlehanded TransPac Race from San Francisco to Hawaii in Endangered Species, a half-scale model of a B.O.C. racing sailboat which he built himself. John is author of Trekka 'Round the World.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will encourage the dreamers to leave the dock., May 8, 1999
This review is from: Trekka Round the World (Paperback)
If you have ever wanted to cruise the oceans by means of your own yacht, than the story told by Mr. Guzzwell will get you on your way. His account of the history making voyage involves you from the very seed of inspiration that powered himself to build a boat, outfit it with the proper gear, and sail across the ocean towards a dream. It was this journey that gives him the distinction of being the first englishman to sail around the world singlehanded. And at the time, Trekka was the smallest yacht to do so. I would encourage all readers with yachting interests to read this book without hesitation.

This review is from: Trekka Round the World (Paperback)
John Guzzwell, who is arguably the finest yachtsman in the world, writes a beautiful book about his record breaking voyage around the world. Mr. Guzzwell proves that not only is he an avid sailor but an outstanding author as well. I couldn't put it down! Do yourself a favor and don't sail another mile before reading this masterpiece!

5.0 out of 5 stars JOHN GUZZWELL, November 3, 2006
This review is from: Trekka Round the World (Paperback)
An excellent book by a remarkable sailor and person who at the age of 76 is still involved with boats. I met him in 1962 when he built his second yacht, 'Treasure' and like 'Trekka' is to a Laurent Giles design.
