Trekkies

This documentary is an excellent look at the Star Trek's extreme fans, also known as Trekkies. I'm a huge Star Trek fan and I loved this movie. It is a loving and considerate tribute to the fans by giving them their own movie. I don't know where people got the idea that this was insulting or offensive because it is neither. It is a look into the world of true Trek fans. This movie doesn't judge or make fun of anyone who is interviewed.

Denise Crosby did an excellent job as the host. Like I said, this movie gives fans and non fans a like a look into the lives of Trekkies, those who live Star Trek. There is a dentist who has his entire office decorated with Star Trek paraphernalia, a radio dj who hosts a radio talk show called "Talk Trek", and many other people interviewed. There are also interviews with many of our favorite cast members including Leonard Nimoy, Walter Koenig, James Doohan, DeForest Kelley and many others. And clips of behind the scenes of DS9 and Voyager.

The interviews of the cast members are interesting, funny and at other times tear jerkers. And a look at the fans in their interviews is equally entertaining. No one has fans like Star Trek does, and this movie shows that!

Trekkies 2

This movie took the first one, and made it better by 100%! I was absolutely blown away about how much improvement this movie was to the original. For one thing, there was much more variety. This movie visits many different countries, and interviews many different people, and this time shows the world's love for Star Trek. Germany, France, England, Brazil and many other countries are visited. Very interesting to see other countries take on Trek.

It also lets us visit some of our favorite people from the original film, mainly the fan favorite Gabriel, and see how they are doing now, seven years after the original film. Another cool aspect of the movie is that we get to see a lot of American Star Trek tribute bands like Warp 11 among others. There are not as many Star Trek stars interviewed in this film as were in the original, but there is enough to keep us happy. Mainly the cast from the television series "Star Trek Enterprise" is interviewed, but Ethan Phillips, better known as Neelix on "Star Trek Voyager" returns as well as Denise Crosby as she hosts this film.

I didn't think this could beat the original film, because I loved the original "Trekkies" but this went above and beyond what the original film was. If you loved the first film, you will love this film 100% more! If you didn't like the original film, you need to see this, because it is 100% better, trust me.

The extras on this DVD are deleted scenes that last at least an hour long. It also has two fan films made by the people interviewed in this documentary.

Trekkies 1 is hilarious. Trekkies have the best sense of humour . Who could imagine golf fanatics poking fun at themselves this way. And on the serious side, the amount of charity and good will that trekkies give every day is inspiring. As a trekkie for over 30 yrs, I laughed, cryed, was slighly cringing at times but overall had fun. And if you're not a trekkie, find out what it all means. It's not so scary. You'll be surprised!!

Enjoyable series of documentaries detailing the varying types of Star Trek fans. Nice commentary from the different series actors and actresses as well.

A must for any real Trek fan.

I have all of the Old Series and Next Generation DVDs. I also have all of the movies. These DVDs and Galaxy Quest complete the set. It's a wonderful look at the effect the show has had on the world.

This is a classic piece of work. It's a lovingly crafted documentary, which showcases Trek fans all across the country in all of their splendor. You get the most reclusive geeks to the most outspoken (and sometimes sexual!) deviants society has to offer. They all have one thing in common- their love of Trek! While today's "moviemakers" would make a film more poking fun at people like this, this film is made by fans for fans. There are interviews with the stars, like Scotty, Sulu, Uhura, Janeway, Data, Wesley Crusher, etc., and it's hosted by Denise "Tasha Yar\Sela" Crosby. If you are into Trek in any way, you MUST own this. Trekkies 2 was also enjoyable, not quite so much as the first, but what the hell, if you get the two pack set, you've got a great pair of films to watch after work one night. These are also great at parties or even dates!

I first saw Trekkies almost 10 years ago and in watching this documentary
about Star Trek I was amazed at how diverse the fan base is within the
United States. As with any hobby or interest there are always a few "fans"
who are a little on the strange side and Star Trek is no exception.
Trekkies shows both sides of the coin from the truely dedicated fans of the
Series to the casual people who enjoy the stories, but stop short of having
the show run their lives.

Both Trekkies and Trekkies 2 (which follows up on some of people
from the first Trekkies) is wonderfully entertaining and makes a great
point that a single show such as Star Trek can make a positive impact
on society.

I highly recommend purchasing these for the Star Trek/SciFi Fan in your
life!!!!!

I enjoyed these DVDs, I took long enough to finally buy them but Star Trek is something I have been involved with since that first show on television. The cast interviews are worth the cost of the DVDs.

Those who haven't always been Star Trek fans will learn a lot about the Phenomenon that is Star Trek. Not only did its creator inspire a believe in better future for mankind, it inspired the people who made that future possible. Our technology today owes a lot to the inspiration that was then science fiction, but is today science fact.

You won't be disappointed in my estimation IF you buy them.

Since I'm some what of a Trekkie or Trekker, depending on your preference, I enjoyed both DVD's. I definately recommend them if watch or have watched Star Trek.

Some of the people shown in these documentaries are a little over the top. But for the most part it shows the dedication the fans have to the ideals of Star Trek and the positive impact the shows have had on people's lives. I love that Denise goes all around the world interviewing fans. Star Trek isn't just an American show. It belongs to the world.
