From the Back Cover

This is the fully revised third edition of Charlie Loram's practical guide to low-impact trekking in this high altitude region of northwest India. The spectacular natural landscape of immense mountains, wild deserts and deep gorges, combined with a thriving Tibetan-Buddhist culture makes Ladakh (Little Tibet) one of the most fascinating destinations in the Himalaya.

72 detailed trekking maps - Comprehensive trail descriptions and 72 maps covering both classic and lesser-known routes throughout: Central and Western Ladakh; Nubra; Rupshu; Zanskar; also includes Stok Kangri trekking peak.

All the practical information you need - planning your trip and getting to Ladakh from North America, Europe, Australasia and other parts of Asia; arranging a trek - whatever your style of trekking, from a short backpacking trip to a fully-guided expedition; health and mountain safety; history, culture and language.

Minimum impact for maximum insight - how to travel with sensitivity and awareness through a fragile region

Plus - City guides to Leh, Delhi, and Manali.

5.0 out of 5 stars Armchair traveler, January 3, 2007
This review is from: Trekking in Ladakh, 3rd: India Trekking Guides (Trailblazer) (Paperback)
This is in fact the only detailed account, well illustrated, for a traveler to Ladakh (do you know where is it?), a small Buddhist-Islam country which still preserves many of the traditions already spoiled in Nepal & Sikkim.
For a trekker, this is a precious vade mecum. For a learner, Charlie Loram is a most knowledgeable teacher on the subject.
This book is worth your time and money.
And, thank you Charlie for a superb book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative Guide Book, August 8, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Trekking in Ladakh, 3rd: India Trekking Guides (Trailblazer) (Paperback)
This is also a good guide book as is the Lonely Planet Guide to the Indian Himalayas. Both have very good information. Maps are better in LP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best trekking guide to the region, November 24, 2011
This review is from: Trekking in Ladakh, 3rd: India Trekking Guides (Trailblazer) (Paperback)
This is the best TREKKING guidebook on Ladakh available, and is likely to remain valuable for many years as not much changes in the treks of this region, even if new roads are built and construction continues in the towns.

The format is small enough to fit in your pocket as you trek and the bound edition ensures durability. Practically all treks in the regions are described in details, and excellent hand drawn maps complete job.

You also get intro chapters on India and planning tips.

The LP book is a good complement, I would get both.
