Editorial Reviews

Original soundtrack to the second season of the critically-acclaimed HBO series. Treme: Music from the HBO Original Series, Season Two revels in the abounding riches of New Orleans music today. Here are brass bands, roots rock, traditional jazz, R&B and Cajun music, with a special nod to the city's piano tradition (with Henry Butler, Jon Cleary, Dr. John, Tom McDermott, David Torkanowsky each prominently featured). Also included is the once-in-a-lifetime collaboration between neo-funksters Galactic, the iconic Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and rapper Juvenile. Recorded live on the streets and in the clubs, these recordings capture the indefatigable spirit of America's greatest musical city.

I'm a newcomer to New Orleans music--I never really thought I'd enjoy it, and I never gave it much of a chance. I don't love the HBO series "Treme" unreservedly, although I definitely enjoy it, but the music has been a revelation to me. This album gathers together some of the most magical moments from a show full of incredible music. The songs run the gambit from stompin' Traditional jazz, to evocative instrumentals like "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most" to the dirty mouthed bounce/hip-hop of DJ Davis and the Brassy Knoll (a creation of the show). This disc is a self contained party, an introduction to a very vital and alive musical tradition, and a great listen. This should do the trick for fans of the show, and should be good listening for folks who just want to hear a little of what New Orleans has to offer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Choice of Songs from Season 2 October 28, 2012
By RJW
Format:Audio CD
First, I love Treme, and I love the music from in every single episode! I bought the soundtrack from Season 1 and still play it often. I also bought the soundtrack from Season 2. However, it seemed to me that many of the great songs by wonderful artists I heard in the Season 2 episodes did not make it to the soundtrack. This was a big disappointment. The selections are kind of blah when compared to Season 1 and what could have been for the Season 2 soundtrack. The Season 2 soundtrack struck me as a quick-buck effort that may have been hampered by licensing and/or royalty issues. I don't know what the problems were, but I will be much more careful when considering the inevitable Season 3 soundtrack.

4.0 out of 5 stars Treme Season two : music ftom the series September 7, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This Cd is easy to listen to, but not as appealing to me as season one. However, it is frequently in my Cd player as I really enjoy this genre of music. I purchased this at Amazon and most likely will buy Treme Season Three.

The more I listen to this CD, the more I like it. It's a great opportunity to really get to know some of the awesome talent displayed on this series. Hearing many of these tunes for the first time on the show, I really wanted to listen more intently - one can only do that with repeated listening. No distractions from the show too, although I loved the series and was sad to see it end. What an incredible musical heritage we have in New Orleans.

The music is so very New Olreans and the musicians are NO musicians that are around and performing much of the time.

This CD was given as a gift. The recipient is elated. I have had the chance to hear the CD, and I must agree. The music in Treme is outstanding.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid delicious NO meal January 22, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
There is a great diversity in material here. If you're a fan of brass, and the dirty, almost grimy sounds that New Orleans is known for, this is it. Soul Apostles here, though without Mr. Batiste, and a few other gems that I didn't realize were on the soundtrack. Discover the music from what was my favorite Treme season.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved the HBO Series...
I also love the sound of New Orleans, and this is the real deal. Everybody is musical there...it's an essential part of their culture.
This catches that raw real deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable gift basket of New Orleans music
Many styles of music that you can hear on the sidewalks and in the bars of New Orleans and bayou country. Some lovely solos and duets too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ya missed...
Too much live stuff, not well-enough recorded. Way too much Lucia, who I'm sure is a nice lady and a very talented musician, but has nothing to do with New Orleans. Read more

Of all the fantastic songs that were played in the show, the ones they chose, in my opinion, definitely were not the best. Read more
