Tren Al Sur, which means Train to the South is a very cool 80's type song. When I first heard this song, I was blown away by the catchy hook, harmonies and production of this song. Yes, it's pure 80's but it still holds up today compared to today's music (total crap!). The song is in Spanish because Los Prisioneros is from Mexico. But, even if you don't speak Spanish (I only know a little), this is a great song. Sorry to say, I've heard other cuts by Los Prisioneros and wasn't impressed with the musicality and production compared to Tren Al Sur. It's almost like the band was trying a different genre with this song compared to the rest of their stuff. I really dig how they incorporated the steam train chugging along with the tempo of the song and slowing down to pull into the train station. The timing was perfect! The song picks up with an a cappella, finger snapping chorus and then the music coming back to join them for the fade out. That is such a wonderful chorus line, that it's the type of hook you can't get out of your head. It's too bad Los Prisioneros never came up with another song with the same caliber as Tren Al Sur. If you want to check out what type of music these guys do, I would highly recommend you purchase this song first and then take a chance with the rest of there available catalog. Who knows, you might even like it.
