Authenticity,
By
This review is from: El Tren De Los Momentos (Audio CD)
El Tren de los Momentos, as well as Alejandro Sanz's previous CD, No Es Lo Mismo, are great examples os a singer's ability to be authentic. Years go by, life changes, people change, and their way to see (and to sing) reality follow suit. The poetry, the energy, and the intentionally-hidden interpretations of Alejandro Sanz's work fascinate me once more. Different? Yes. But here lies the beauty of this newborn CD: El Tren de los Momentos pictures life in its forever changing state. My advice? Change with it! Just get on this train and enjoy the beauty of accepting change.

After the mediocre last CD No Es Lo Mismo this is a true return to form Alejandro.
The only reason this didn't get a five is because 5 is what Mas and El Alma Al Aire got. As good as this CD is it's not as good as those ones. What stands out is that Alejandro seems to be going back to his sound pre-No Es Lo Mismo (thank god for that). There is a nod to 3, Mas, and El Alma Al Aire in this CD. The stand out tracks for me are "Ensename Tus Manos" and the duet with Shakira "Te Lo Agradezco Pero No" which is brilliant. I'm not a big Shakira fan but they've managed to tone down her voice enough to make her bearable and the song brilliant. Shakira is an original singer but her voice can be overpowering and isn't really made for ballads. Anyway, both those songs will be huge. Other great tracks are "En La Planta De Tus Pies" which in singing style for Sanz... sounding awfully like Tiziano Ferrer. It works. "Te Quiero Te Amo" is another cahnge in direction for Sanz, a bluesy number which also works (think John Mayer's latest work). "A La Primera Persona" is also a great song which is all over radio. Two complaints, one minor one major. The minor one is that the flamenco influence has been toned down considerably particularly musically but also slightly in his voice, in Mas and El Alma Al Aire his voice was filled with flamenco infections. I always loved those things about his music. The major complaint is that Alejandro Sanz does not do rock or urban very well yet he continually tries to and it needs to stop. The worst songs on the album are all the ones where he delves into rock or urban such as "Se Molestan" (terrible) and also "Peleita" with Juanes & Calle 13. You wouild think with a line up like that it would be brilliant but it's just really bad. Ni Es Lo Mismo was wasted money, this one is worth buying and everyone should. Now, we'll see what he does with his impending English language album.
