4.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice
First off i was sceptic about the handle not being made of brass. I was pleseantly suprised when I found cuting into it with a metal saw to be quite difficult.

The blade showed up sharpened but in no way sharp enough for my standards. So far it is holding solid. I did make one change to the blade though. I added serrations to 1/3 of the blade on the handle...

3.0 out of 5 stars rat tail
The knife has a good feel and weight, the blade is about 1/8th in thick and not just painted, but given a thick parkerizing. As for negatives, the blood groove is pretty badly machined, the blade is absolutely dull when you get it, but worst, the skull crusher nut comes off to reveal that it is a threaded rat tail tang welded on by Chinese slaves. First off i was sceptic about the handle not being made of brass. I was pleseantly suprised when I found cuting into it with a metal saw to be quite difficult.

The blade showed up sharpened but in no way sharp enough for my standards. So far it is holding solid. I did make one change to the blade though. I added serrations to 1/3 of the blade on the handle side. My reasons for needing that is simple as I plan to take this knife on my next deployment. The knife now resides in a Ka-Bar sheath.

All in all for the price this is a well refined knife. the sheath it came with sucks yes but thats fixed easy. Its a fine replacement for my USMC ka-bar.
For practical or just collector use I recomend this knife.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great knife, February 10, 2010

Built solid. Weight feels good and empowering. Factory edge was a bit dull to my liking, probably for shipping and safety reasons. My only complaint is that my middle and ring finger knuckles are just a bit too large to slide into the knuckles without twisting my fingers slightly. I'll soon remedy that problem with a Dremel tool.

PS, I have big hands, so most won't encounter the same problem I had.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Novelty Knife, January 19, 2010

Military antiques are out of my price range so I'm always looking for cheap substitutes. In WW2 the 509th BCT took an M1 Garand bayonet 10" blade and exchanged the handle w/ the brass M1918 trench knife creating a 10" trench knife. Originals are very scarce. This knife creates a modern version @ a cheap price. I do wish it came w/ the hard fiber Garand sheath but that would alos raise the price. I wouldn't carry it to war but it is a nice novelty.

As for negatives, the blood groove is pretty badly machined, the blade is absolutely dull when you get it, but worst, the skull crusher nut comes off to reveal that it is a threaded rat tail tang welded on by Chinese slaves. To fix it, the blade will be unscrewed and a new blood groove milled in it, some of the blank space before the blade (like where it says made in china)will be ground down to form some extra tang and will be flush with the handle to prevent movement, the handle right before the guard will be smashed so the tang cannot move inside, and the handle will be filled with some kind of metal (probably just solder or lead).

3.0 out of 5 stars Functional & Solid Knife, January 19, 2012

This review is from: WWI Trench Knife Black Blade and Handle (Misc.)
This is a Chinese manufactured knife modeled after the 1918 WWI trench knife. I am rating it accordingly as i did not expect superior craft for $20, however, it is solid all the way through. Heavy, deadly, and intimidating.
The blade does not come sharp whatsoever, you will need to sharpen yourself. The skull crusher on the bottom is very pointy it comes with a rubber cap for safe transport. The sheath it came with is pretty lame, but the price of the knife that is expected and i plan on replacing that right away. The knuckle holes are big enough for big hands, but if you're like me you have to slide your knuckle through the wider top part of the hole then grasp the handle, this actually helps even more to prevent the weapon from being ripped away. One thing that is slightly annoying is that you cant lay it down on the table the hand guard goes full circle and is rather large. There are several modifications i plan on making to the knife(serrations, sharpening, hand guard mod), after that's done it would definitely be a 4 out of 5 star knife

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent blade, January 5, 2012

This review is from: WWI Trench Knife Black Blade and Handle (Misc.)
I just recently purchased this knife because I really liked the fact that it was an inexpensive replica and it looks very deadly. Having taken the knife out of the packaging and handling it a bit, i can say with certainty that it is definitely very deadly. The blade comes dull out of the box because of safety concerns. That being said, if you intend to use this knife for practical applications or prefer a sharp blade, do some research and be prepared to sharpen or have it sharpened.

As to the blade, it is made of what i would describe as high quality stainless steel. I know that it is stainless steel because it is engraved as such on the blade. The knife has significant weight to it, not just in the handle but the blade itself is very dense. If you intend to sharpen the blade, i would recommend starting with a coarse sharpening stone as the metal is quite thick and will need to be thinned to sharpen properly.

The knife blade is securely attached to the handle, not at all loose. The sheath is heavy duty material, but does not weigh down the blade and fits securely over the blade.

vary happy that it arrived before said date. heavy :)
i love it it looks great feels great the knuckle are fit a little wrong but but if you do get your hand in it feels vary comfortable.
vary intimidating to look at. nice tip on it on all points needs to come a little sharper and the part of the guard that will be up against you needs to be ground down a bit to prevent rubbing when you wear it on a belt.

cons.
- sharpness
- guard needing to be ground down

pros.
- everything else

very happy with the purchase time to go get some zombies.

5.0 out of 5 stars very nice., December 14, 2011

This knife is very solid and feels great in your hand. The knuckleguard is a solid peice ,Im not sure if its aluminium but its solid and hard. Its easy to hold ,plenty of room for your fingers. The skull crusher on the end of the knuckleguard is really sharp and it is deadly. Although you cant see it in the photo on one side of the knuckle guard "U.S 1918" is engraved, so it adds to the replica value. The blade while not razer sharp does have an edge and it can be sharpened with a knife sharpener with a little time. The point is sharp which is what is most important as this is a stabbing weapon. All in all its very nice and I would use it for self defense.I wouldnt say that if I didnt feel it was a good knife. It also comes with a sheath thats nylon I believe and it has a button strap that secures the knife through the knuckleguard. This knife would really look good as display aswell, especialy with other ww1 or 2 memoribelia.

Came on time and well packed. Needed a bit of sharpening when I got it, but that's to be expected. Feels comfortable, the grip is the perfect size. My only complaint is that the sheath is not the greatest, but for the price it's ok.
