The Real Deal,
This review is from: In The Trenches: Financial Survival During Times of Hardship (Paperback)
This is a great book for anyone who needs some chicken soup for the financial soul. It's a collection of short stories illustating a perspective not often seen in most of these types of books with real practical applications. Be prepared to do a few things that may raise some eyebrows from people who know you, but I can almost guarantee you they will be following your lead when they see you both happier and healthier financially and spiritually.

A Diamond in the Rough,

This review is from: In The Trenches: Financial Survival During Times of Hardship (Paperback)
This is a great book! As Elaine Littau says it is a "very down-to-earth approach to finances". Carol uses true life tales to show that it is possible to survive in such a downward economy and come out ahead. The worksheets are a bit small, but Carol posted full scale worksheet for you to print at [...]. This book is a must read for anyone looking for inspiration to pull through their own difficult financial hardships.Christine, webmaster of [...]

A Good Book About Finances an Even Better Book About Life!,
This review is from: In The Trenches: Financial Survival During Times of Hardship (Paperback)
I just finshed reading this book at GooggleDocs via a link provided by the author at her website. It is, as noted in another review, like chicken soup for the financial soul. The book has three parts--the first part deals with the fundamentals of personal financial management and includes some worksheets and samples. This is basic stuff readily avaialble online but valuable here for the author's input and explanations for using the forms to begin to organize your finances. The third part is where you find the blank forms she uses in part one. The forms are small in the book format but you can download more usable versions at her website. The second part of the book was the most interesting part for me as this is where she shares her stories from years "in the trenches." For those struggling with their finances, these stories will provide a lift and hope. review by: tmgbooks.com

Common Cents...and Dollars,

I found "In the Trenches, Financial Survivial During Times of Hardship" by Carol Schultz-Weil to be a very down-to-earth approach to finances. The advice is helpful for the affluent as well as those of us who must pinch the life out of our pennies. There is advice for people who are out of work and out of money. The charts are a little on the small side, but my copy machine can enlarge them for my personal use. She gives a bare bones budget for those in dire straits. There is also a chart with a few more items listed in the budget. This thought provoking read is not only informative but entertaining. The true life stories rang true. I urge anyone who needs financial advice on the home front to buy this book. It is well worth the money and may help you dig out of a pit.Elaine Littau, author of Nan's Journey, Elk's Resolve, and Luke's Legacy |
