I have no idea of what people who do not rate this item highly are looking for, but it does exactly what it is designed for, for a very reasonable price. This is a great product--a real keeper. If you go to the beach & pool alot, it's a must have. There is no way that water can get in & you can easily manipulate the buttons.

I have no idea of what people who do not rate this item highly are looking for, but it does exactly what it is designed for, for a very reasonable price. I love to read in the Hot Tub, but since I have had a Kindle, I have not been able to. I ordered this cover, and now I can read in the Hot Tub even better than a regular paperback book (the pages or which always get splashed). I don't submerge it or otherwise intentionally get it wet, but it defintely keeps the water from my hands and the splashing away from the kindle. It would be perfect for the beach or pool area. I think some people expect too much from a product. So you have to open the top to turn it on. It's not like you are opening it under water! I would highly recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product for beach reading, June 27, 2009
This review is from: TrendyDigital WaterGuard Waterproof Case for Kindle DX, Blue Border (Electronics)
I have purchased a waterproof case for the K2 from TrendyDigital before. I liked its functionality and design. Now I have gotten a DX. I decided to get TrendyDigital's Waterproof case for my Kindle DX as well, and I'm very happy because I made the right decision. The case is very easy-to-use, and it definitely serves its purpose. To open the case, all you have to do is unbutton the two buttons at the top to reveal a double layer of secure seal, which you can then unseal.. When I put my Kindle DX inside the case, it fit very well. There is a little space at the blue border. It is useful if you want to put a small bag of moisture absorbance material. The blue border around the device adds a nice contrast I might add.

Once I sealed the Kindle into the case, I found that the buttons and the keyboard were easily accessible. The power switch cannot be accessed once the Kindle is sealed into its case, but this is expected seeing as it is a waterproof case after all. I had no difficulty opening the case to access the power button, so no complaints here. I might also add that I have taken my Kindle (in its waterproof case of course) to the beach several times now, and my Kindle DX has never gotten wet. The case is simple yet effective, and I would highly recommend buying it if you're like me and often use your Kindle for beach reading/bathtub reading.

I'm not certain if people who hate this product realize it's true nature. If you think this is a glorified 'Ziploc' bag for your Kindle, it is, but with the caveat that it will probably be better than an actual resealable bag. This product is FAR too roomy for any sort of snug fit, and the glossy plastic, while soft and nicely made, is for one purpose. This product will keep your Kindle dry and usable, I guarantee it based on my experience. I would not hesitate to take my DX to the beach with this, but I now know that it would only be appropriate for every day use if I lived by the water, etc. What I'm know hoping (and presuming) is that the hardshell case coming soon will fit well in this sleeve, giving the most practical protection.CLEAR mCover® Polycarbonate Hard Shell Cover Case with Hard Screen Protector for 9.7-inch Amazon Kindle DX eBook reader

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly as described, March 10, 2011

I got this so that I wouldn't have to worry about taking my DX out near the pool in the summer (and so I could read while floating!). I haven't actually had a chance to test this case yet, but it appears that it will perform exactly as described. The case is made of thin, flexible, but apparently strong, plastic. The front is clear, the back has a slight blue hue. The DX fits inside with plenty of room left over - this is NOT a fitted case, it's more of a pouch that you'd put the Kindle in, or could use for other electronics as well. The top is well-sealed. There is a heavy plastic foldover that has two snaps and a strip of Velcro holding it closed. Inside that foldover is the actual opening of the pouch, which seals with two ziplock strips, then gets folded into the hard plastic part. It seems very secure. Several reviews commented that you had to undo all the seals to turn the Kindle on. I got the brainstorm to put the Kindle in upside down, and discovered that you can use the on/off switch through the thin plastic body that way, which seems to me that it would be more secure than opening the watertight seal at the top to turn on/off. There is an adjustable lanyard attached at the top, so you can put the sealed Kindle around your neck or something to avoid any accidents while on a raft or tube.

All in all, I'm looking forward to using this in and near the pool this summer. It looks as though it will deliver exactly what it's supposed to, and I'll be considering getting another one for my smaller Kindle as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kindle case at the beach, September 11, 2010

I bought this to keep my Kindle water and sand free during a beach trip. I spent a week reading in the sand, between dips in the gulf. This case did a great job of keeping my Kindle safe and clean. The buttons are easily accessable, except the on/off switch. The screen is clear and easy to read through. Great purchase for me - it's in my beach bag & ready for my next trip.

I bought this item because my family and I like to go to the lake. Just as much as we like to fish and play in the water, I like to read while there. Where I live in Texas, we are abnormally wet - and I tend to drop things. So if you are like me...this is a great item to have.

Cover is great. Works exactly like stated. You can turn the Kindle DX on before you fold down the cover to snap it closed. The rope attached is nice so you can carry it over your arm like a purse. This cover has been to the beach and out by the pool. No sand no water. Very happy with this product!

The protection this cover gives totally out weighs any inconvenience that comes with it. I would much rather have to unzip it to turn my Kindle back on, if neccessary, than have my Kindle ruined by water. Excellent product.
