I have loved tretorns since the 70's.

There really still is a market for the classic Nylite, if only they would make it as it used to be made.

The soles are hard with no arch support.

As many other reviews have noted, the Tretorn Nylite was a GREAT shoe for playing tennis from the middle 1960s through the early 1990s. They then almost disappeared for several years. When they came back, now under Puma ownership, the styling was similar to the original from the 1960s, but the quality was very poor.

As of early 2013, the situation is a bit confusing as there are at least 3 different Nylites being made and sold.

    (1) The Tretorn Nylite Canvas with an off-white upper and a gull-wing that is pink, navy, or white-white have very poor quality. Missing features include soft arch support, padded ankle collar (just stitching now), the terry cloth shoe liner, and the high heel counter in back (to keep the shoe/foot together when playing tennis). I recommend avoiding these entirely, partly because of the hope they will be replaced by improved versions (see more below).

    (2) The seasonal Summer 2012 editions, which have a coloured upper with a contrasting colour gull-wing, did bring back the terry-cloth lining, but still lack the other features.

    (3) The seasonal Winter 2012-2013 editions, which have a waxed cloth upper in neutral colours (tan, ebony, olive), substitute a corduroy lining (rather than terry-cloth). These are better than the regular versions (#1 above) and similar in quality of construction to #2 above.

In case Puma/Tretorn are listening, I'll repeat other folks' comments that this shoe would sell much better if they would restore the quality from the 1960s - 1980s period. Raise the heel counter a bit, back the way the original Nylite was designed, so the shoe will fit better.

These are definitely not the same Tretorns that we wore when I was in high school! Not the same quality at all - the soles are thin, the canvas is thin, there is no terrycloth in the bottoms, the laces are skimpy and the overall cut is lower. They should hug your foot and mold to it when you first put them on - and what's worse - these are twice the price of the ones we had in the late 70's and 80's. Save your money and don't bother with these - they are not worth it - get some plain tennies at Walmart and be done with it.

I ordered these shoes after reading reviews knowing that these would not be comparable to the original ones I used to faithfully wear. These are comfortable but lack the cushy arch support that made the the originals so great. You can tell that even the canvas is of lesser quality. I ordered white with pink trim but the white looks sun aged..sort of yellowish.
After all of these comments am I glad I have these? Yes. They do look very good and are comfortable just sadly not as substantial as the originals.

the biggest problem with these is the fact that they're not the same as they had been 20 years ago. They are missing the same fit that they use to have. If she was comparing them to a pair other similar shoes from today, they would have done okay. But since she was comparing them to the original, and they were so different, they left a large bad taste.

I paid about $40 in the spring of 2013 for a shoe I gladly paid $70 - $75 in the past. It's easy to see why they're such a bargain. The quality of the classic Tretorn Nylites has fallen so far they look like something you'd find in a remainder bin at a deep discount store. The canvas is thin and cheap where it used to be strong and sturdy, almost like a sail. It puckers at the toe, and I am betting it will separate from the rubber sole by the end of summer. The seams are stitched with flimsier thread and are not as tight as in the past. Finally, they took away the loop on the tongue that made sure the laces stayed in place. Why? They long ago took away the original "Tretorn Blue" as an option for the gull wing color. Gasping their last breath… sadly, this is my last pair.

I've returned this Tretorn sneaker because of poor quality. I've worn this style of Tretorn since the '80's. This Tretorn shoe doesn't have the padded collar around the heel, no terry lining and has very thin laces. For now I'll continue to wear my older pair. I hope the good quality of the Tretorn sneaker comes back soon.

I grew up wearing Tretorn sneakers and let me tell you, they aren't what they used to be. The padding and comfort they I grew up with and cherished isn't there anymore. Every time I wear these my feet hurt from lack of padding and there is a crease line mid-sneaker that rubs the top of my foot raw! Ended up throwing them away after trying to wear them multiple times. I won't be buying Tretorn sneakers again.

Was delighted to find Tretorn sneakers again, since I have always worn them until they went off the market a number of years ago. Ordered them and discovered they are not quite the same quality but the fit, shape and feel are the same. I'm delighted to have my favorite sneaker back and hope they hold up as well as the originals.
