Book Description

Atelier Series. August 1999
Trevor Chamberlain's watercolour paintings are a celebration of light and atmosphere. In this book, the artist describes his approach to interpreting in watercolour the effects of light and weather within the limits of the artist's palette. This book aims to combine a professional attitude towards the practice of painting with an amateur's joie de vivre. A gallery of reproductions offers a glimpse over the shoulder of a modern artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enormously attractive plein-aire painter., November 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Trevor Chamberlain: Light and Atmosphere in Watercolour : A Personal View (Atelier Series.) (Hardcover)
Trevor Chamberlain is one of the most authentic outdoor painters working today. He is a "painter's painter," and anyone who has ever picked up a brush wishes in his or her heart of hearts that Chamberlain's style could be his or her own. His books make this dream almost seem a reality.

This is an awesome book. It has inspired me to paint on-site more and has given me some invaluable additions to my palette. His style is attractive to me because it's more masculine and similar to my own. His narrative is very inspirational and instructive. Reading it and viewing his work will get you out painting every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, October 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Trevor Chamberlain: Light and Atmosphere in Watercolour : A Personal View (Atelier Series.) (Hardcover)
This book is more like reading an illustrated autobiography than a how to book. This is fine with me. Chamberlain is a master of the traditional British style landscape. With a limited palette of earth tones and simplified brush work he creates muted, moody landscapes that to my mind are more compelling than the brightly colored items in most watercolor instruction books. Its a matter of taste, but Chamberlain's work really speaks to me. He's more concerned with communicating the beauty of the world than his own artistic cleverness.
