5.0 out of 5 stars Even atheists will love it
I have never bought a "Christian" album before, but the reviews of the Danielson Famile have been so intriguing that I couldn't help myself. The verdict? If there is a "God," he probably has a fantastic sense of humor. This album made me dance around the kitchen. The morality presented isn't shoved down the listener's throat-- indeed, I was...

2.0 out of 5 stars It's okay for a few laughs, but that's about it.
If you're into cute little songs with corny lyrics, than the Danielson Family is for you. Other than that, don't bother. Most of the songs are based on acoustic guitars, and all of them feature hilariously squeaky voices. I liked "Rubbernecker" and "Pottymouth" the best, but they stick in my head until I'm sick of them. They're nothing more than a...

I have never bought a "Christian" album before, but the reviews of the Danielson Famile have been so intriguing that I couldn't help myself. The verdict? If there is a "God," he probably has a fantastic sense of humor. This album made me dance around the kitchen. The morality presented isn't shoved down the listener's throat-- indeed, I was overwhelmed by the band's new verse of "He's Got the Whole World In His Hand," in which Daniel sings, "He's got the junkies and the flunkies in his hand." Well, it sure made me feel better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling, awe-inspiring fringe rock!, August 17, 2000

I discovered the Danielson Family by accident, and I haven't been the same since! This is so flat-out weird and original that I'm hard pressed to summarize it. Most of the people I know would not like it because it's so strange, and because Daniel Smith's falsetto vocals are not for the aurally challenged. However, I happen to like challenging music, and this music is certainly that! The spiritual message of the music never undermines the creativity and the sonic wonders that await the open minded listener here. In fact, the Christian underpinnings give it an extra "edge." Much of this music made me laugh, some of it really touched me, and all of it made me rub my eyes in disbelief at the stunning originality. "Rubbernecker," "Pottymouth" and "Lord Did You Hear Harrison" are just totally entertaining pieces of music, Christian or not. And for those of you reading this, their album "Tell Another Joke at the Chopping Block" is even more remarkable. So praise the lord if you want, but definitely praise this fearless, endlessly imaginative group, who I recommend heartily, but ONLY to those who like odd, edgy, original rock music. You've been warned!

5.0 out of 5 stars years ahead of its time, June 7, 1999

genius, pure genius!!

this music is both smart and funny but above all, weird! I first saw these guys on a tooth and nail video.(christian hardcore/punk label) They were wearing nurses' uniforms and the singer was wearing a tree costume. The video was these cardboard cutouts that looked like something off of South Park. And the music wasn't that normal, either. Daniel sings in this falsetto voice and there were all kinds of funky beats.

Just like Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart in the 1960's, these guys are also decades ahead of their time. This is not mainstream and you will probably not like it the first time you hear this Cd, but give it a chance. Pottymouth and Lord did you hear harrison are great songs

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Your Typical Christian Music, June 7, 2001

If you are not a typical Christian--well, if you're not a typical human being--this could be a good cd for you. Where most Christian music seems to be lacking in originality, these guys have an excellent message and an ecellent way of telling it. Very unique! This is the only Christian music I would listen to if I wasn't a Christian.. and that's saying something.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, May 24, 2000
This review is from: Tri-Danielson (Audio CD)
I saw this group last year on a whim--I was amazed and haven't enjoyed myself at a show like that in awhile. Bought this album at the show and immediately loved it. I would only characterize it as unaccessible if one automatically assumes that Christian=bad. Strangely enough, I thought the songs were easy to listen to and extremely entertaining. Certainly reminiscent of Black Francis' voice, but there's so much more to it. Check it out!

I think I like this album the most, but all their album are good. Catchy good songs that took a wrong turn and ended up better songs because of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky Genius, December 29, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tri-Danielson-Alpha (Audio CD)
I love this CD. It is odd...no doubt, but it's not, as someone called it, a "novelty". Impossible to ignore; you'll never put this one on for background...it commands an instant reaction from everyone who hears it. My favorites are Southern Paws and Lord Do You Hear Harrison...and, of course, Pottymouth (even though I wish the spoken parts were more easily discernable)

They are most appropriate at three o'clock in the morning when I've had waaaay too much Mountain Dew.
