Sick Puppies don’t do things halfway, not when they’re playing live in front of their rabid fans, nor when they tackled Tri-Polar, their second major label album for RMR/Virgin/EMI and follow-up to Dressed Up As Life.

When the Australian band decided to break through in the U.S., founding members,… Read more in Amazon's Sick Puppies Store

Editorial Reviews

Import edition includes three bonus tracks; Maybe (Polar Opposite Version), All The Same (Polar Opposite Version) and Riptide (Polar Opposite Version). 2009 sophomore album from Sick Puppies. After forming in Australia in 1997, and following their dream of moving to the US to record their debut album, Sick Puppies made a huge impact with their video for `All The Same' (AKA the Free Hugs video). The video became an international phenomenom, tallying more than 43 million views worldwide, netting Sick Puppies an international deal and release of their debut album Dressed Up As Life through Virgin Records. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exceptional find, July 15, 2009
This review is from: Tri-Polar (Audio CD)
Unlike most people, I was not introduced to Sick Puppies by the "Free hugs" song; I was actually just listening to a local radio station and "You're Going Down" came on, it being the first single from "Tri-Polar". Needless to say, I cranked it up and immediately went to work finding out who this band was. And boy, I'm glad I did!

As "You're Going Down" got more airtime closer to the release of "Tri-Polar", I found myself becoming more and more addicted to that song, pretty much to the point I couldn't get out of my head. So doing some research and actually purchasing their first album, "Dressed Up As Life", I could hardly wait to see what these Australian rockers came up with.

From song one of the album, "War", Shimon Moore's infectious vocals dig deep, and they don't let go until the last note of "White Balloons". This is especially true in such songs as "Should've Known Better" and "Don't Walk Away" -- definately some fine pieces of work here! But as a whole, the entire album is a great listen. There really isn't a single song you need to skip. In fact, you'll probably find yourself hitting the repeat button once or twice!

So for someone who loves this kind of music and had never known about this band until now, I'd recomment this album, and especially this band to anyone who likes any kind of rock or grunge. For as much generic-rock that's out there, it's nice to know there's a few albums that still come out and are exceptional, if not to the point of being elite!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's going to be ok, odd one!, July 16, 2009
This review is from: Tri-Polar (Audio CD)
I remember getting into the Sick Puppies by mistake. Two years two of my friends and I went to see Chevelle in concert and the Sick Puppies just happened to open for them and I'm glad they did. The Puppies easily tore the place down and after the show it was amazing to meet these three very grounded, amazing artists.

I won't lie, before I bought "Tri-Polar" on Tuesday I was nervous because I enjoyed "Dressed Up As Life" so much and was hoping they'd not let down, you know, the "sophmore slump." One of the same friends who was with me at the show listened to the CD with me for the first time and we loved it from the start. Shim's guitar work is amazing, Emma's bass is sexy and Mark's drums are very solid.

Shim's vocals shine again, as do Emma's in the background and even getting the co-staring role in "White Balloons." I love "Tri-Polar" as much as I did "Dressed Up As Life" but don't expect the same CD, it's a big step up from a maturing band. Standout tracks (for me) include "Riptide", "So What I Lied", "Should've Known Better" and many more.

So buy "Tri-Polar" and support this amazing band. At least do it for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great puppies, April 16, 2010

This Aussie band has tremendously impressed ne. Their songs evoke a plethora of issues their age, my age and in-between can relate to. They are incredibly talented and they share that with their audience. "I hate you" is a hymn to ambivalence in the language of new rock whereas "You're going down" is the perfect radio single.Although hard rock oriented, you smell the teenage and beyond angst. My favorite is White Ballons!
