Accuracy Above Dogma,
By Rob C. (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Trial of Jesus of Nazareth (Paperback)
This book is a scholarly investigation into the trial and execution of Jesus Christ. It is very well written and researched. It moves beyond the dogma and rhetoric of modern day Chirstianity and sheds ling on the realpolitics and dynamics of 1st Century Jerusalem. You conclusions will be much more clear and concise after reading this book and your understanding of the times that led to the Crucifixion will be enlightened. I strongly recommend this book.

At last - a plausible explanation of this event.,
By Mark Trotter (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Trial of Jesus of Nazareth (Paperback)
The really amazing thing about this book is that it was written in the 60s. Yet, I often find "scholarly" books of recent publication that unnecessarily complicate this same material. Brandon does a wonderful job of taking each major group in this event (i.e. the Romans, the establishment Jews, the rural Jews, and the Gentile (soon to be Christian) Jews) and explaining what they did (or probably did) and why their acts made sense to them. By the end of this book you will understand that spin doctoring was alive and well in the 1st C. AD.

This is an excellent book if you are into first century hebrew history. It will be of no interest to the casual reader. Obviously, it has a plot most of us know what it is, and how it trned out. But the details of who was who, and what was happening in Israel during the first century are very interesting to a biblical/history student. The author, SFG Brandon is a great story teller, and history writer.
