1.0 out of 5 stars Review of ODB's third solo effort

1.0 out of 5 stars Review of ODB's third solo effort, July 21, 2003

I have always been a fan of Ol' Dirty Bastard. His first two albums were both highly enjoyable. His vocal talent, which is so awful that it's brilliant (i.e. Biz Markie) and his drugged-out flow are truly one of a kind. That being said, D3 has done his fans wrong.

Despite what any album summary might tell you, ODB did not record this album while on the run from the law. In fact, none of these songs were even recorded by him. Almost half of the tracks on the album are skits taken from MTV interviews. Of the remaining, more than half are old vocals over awful beats. They actually take a well-known track from his first solo album and put another beat behind it. Even the lead single featuring cult rap group, Insane Clown Posse has recycled ODB lyrics. There are only about three tracks that have unreleased vocals on them and none of them are worth it.

This album contains no production or guest appearances from any member of the Wu-Tang Clan and in fact would be better served to call itself a "remix" album than try to pawn itself off as a brand new ODB album, which it is not.

1.0 out of 5 stars If You Love ODB, Don't Buy This Album!, June 26, 2002
This review is from: Trials & Tribulations of Russell Jones (Audio CD)
This album is a sheisty industry money making move! ODB had nothing to do with the production of this album! Russel Jones didn't even know that it was coming out! All it is is old ODB verses put over wack new beats with guest MCees. This album is horrid, and if you love and respect ODB like myself, don't pick it up. Go get Nigga Please and Return to the 36, those are albums that ODB actually had input on. This album sucks. ODB doesn't suck though. Damn the sheisty jerks at D3 records. They are doing their best to destroy ODB's reputation as a great MC, which he most definitely is.

1.0 out of 5 stars ODB's worst album ever, April 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Trials & Tribulations of Russell Jones (Audio CD)
How can anybody really seriously consider this album to be his best album ever? Half the songs are just old vocal tracks featuring new lame beats (Dirty N' Stinkin feature the EXACT same vocal tracks from his version of "Susudio" from the Phil Collins tribute album). One song also takes the vocal tracks from C'Mon from Return of the 36 Chambers, and another takes the vocal tracks from "Dog****", off the Wu-Tang Forever album. Best tracks are by far the Intro track and the hilarious "Takin a ****", ... Brought a tape recorder into the stall and went to town. Masterpiece. They should have just released that as a single and left it at that. In the words of the Simpsons comic book store owner....."Worst album ever!"

1.0 out of 5 stars My first listen was my last..., December 6, 2002

First song has the worst group ever, ICP, that automatically makes this CD horrible from the beginning. The majority of ODB's lyrics are just cut out of old Wu-Tang songs. The production is horrible. Stay away from this CD, I don't even consider it a Wu CD.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this CD!, March 29, 2002
This review is from: Trials & Tribulations of Russell Jones (Audio CD)
This cd is terrible! The production is lack-luster at best (the RZA isn't even on the cd, and neither are any other Wu members) and Ol' Dirty is just reharshing old lyrics from "Return to the 36 Chambers", "Nigga Please" and "Wu Tang Forever" (only 3 songs are original, in terms of lyrics). The third-string rappers with him, like C-Mureder and Too Short, are just boring to hear and on top of that, needless skits and remixes eat up more album time. This is one of the worst Wu albums to come out yet, right down there with "Golden Arms Redemption" by U-God. Don't waste your money; buy "Return to the 36 Chambers" instead.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly made remix album. 2 1/2 stars, January 23, 2005
This review is from: Trials & Tribulations of Russell Jones (Audio CD)
I am a huge ODB fan that had to have all of his CDs, even this old thing. If you don't own this CD you're not missing much. For starters ODB and Wu-Tang had no input on this record. Dirty didn't even know it was being made. The whole album except for like three tracks are made from semi-rare B sides, MTV skits and awful unused studio cuts. Now, lets break the tracks down:

1. Intro -Funny as all hell

2. Caught Up -ODB only raps on this track for 20 seconds and it has one of the worse hooks in music history. **stars

3. Dirty & Stinkin' -Some O.K production, but what kills it is the guests Insane Clown Posse. Fourth remake of the song that I know of so far. **stars

4. Dogged Out -Sad remake of the song "Dog Shxt". The beat sounds Arabic and Too $hort sucks on his verse. **stars

5. Free With Money -Boring and thankfully short skit

6. Anybody -This is kinda good and C-Murder steals the show! *** stars

7. Waitress #13 - Skit, Dirty showing off his manners in a Diner.

8. Reunited -O.K remake of "Reunited" B side. *** stars

9. Here Comes the Judge -Wack as hell beat! Sounds like rejected carnival music! ODB goes crazy on this stinker. * 1/2 stars

10. Cute Devils -Skit, ODB showing love to some random fans.

11. I Wanna Fxck -Worse track yet! Who ever is singing that hook needs to stick to his day job. ODBs verse is recycled form "Don't You Know pt 2" and strange enough it seems censored. * star

12. Highjack -Sort of funny skit

13. Lintballs -Very good track even though Dirty has only one short verse. *** 1/2 stars

14. Zoo Two -Remake of "Brooklyn Zoo 2 (Tiger Crane)". Plain slow beats. ** 1/2 stars

15. Anybody (Remix) -Same lyrics crapier beat. ** 1/2 stars

16. Taking a Shxt -Very funny skit

17. C'mon -Remake of "Baby C'mon". Weak beats. ** stars

18. Dirty & Stinkin' (Remix) -Again, same lyrics crapier beat. Fifth remake of the song that I know of so far. * 1/2 stars

Ol Dirty. That used to be enough to make many Wu Tang fans run to the local record store and buy his records unheard. The trials and tribulations of Russel Jones is so dissapointing I can't express it in words. Cousin RZA aka Robert Diggs aka Bobby Digital didn't have any input into this cd and if he did I would hope that Insane Clown Posse wouldn't be on it. The album falls flat on it's face from the very beginning. Two tracks with Sunz of Man and Brooklyn Zu are standout tracks on this album, but unfortunately a 20 dollar single is plain stupid. ...

1.0 out of 5 stars a complete waste of money, March 29, 2002

It is sad that this album is considered somewhat of a Wu Tang production. I can assure you that it is nothing of the sort. This album is made up of west coast, radio friendly beats, along with ridiculous cameos, i.e.- Insane Clown Posse. Im am a little sorry that I bought this cd, but its cool, I dont mind helping out the man without the father to his style. Wu fans beware, listen to it first and see if it pleases the ear, I seriously doubt it will.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is what it's come to?, March 29, 2002

For those on here who remember Return to the 36 chambers, the one with the raw Rza beats before the WU started to throw together garbage like this, this is one to skip... truly tell the tale of what this is, nothing more than a thrown together album with generic snyth beats (How is is sonically or musically the best of his career?), that come no where near as gritty as a 95 Rza on the boards (They must have never heard that album). The guests are pretty much whack ICP, Mack 10 and a few other guests, that could have been replaced by Wu members and Rza beats... heard how dark the beats are on 36 Chambers, and how Rza fits his crazy style alot more than this commercial type feel of the album? If they did then they would figure out this is no where near the best album of Dirties career, rather by far the worse (Ni**a please was even better), no where in the category of an old Wu album from 95 (Return 36, Liquid Swords, Cuban Linx etc.). He needs to get it together (You know he didn't put together this album), get Rza on the beats and Wu members on the mic, to even get some of the original fanbase back. This is why the Wu is slipping and heads aren't checking for them anymore, letting garbage like this out makes it worse. Stay to making albums like Iron Flag, and stray away from this album..., stay away from this album. Wait until the ... ODB gets free and puts together an album worth buying, in other words forget this disaster ever happened.
