this album imo is tied with "a dead poem" for best rotting christ album. triarchy is a lot more catchy though, and you're instantly hooked by the hallucinating riffing and crushed by the cold atmosphere of the album. the music flirts with elements of doom and black metal to create an impeccable fusion of perfectly tuned darkness. i think that only 2 or 3 songs are average while the rest is monumental in its entirety, especially the mighty "Archon" with its traumatizing rythm section and bass. tracks 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8 are just as efficient. what the hell, just buy this and you'll surely die smarter.

I first heard rotting christ nearly 2-3 years ago on "thy mighty contract" ... and it literally blew me away. I've heard of this record and always wanted to get my hands on it which I recently did. Well most of my review will follow in comparison to "thy mighty ... ". All in all this very much lives up to my expectations from this band ... some fans of "thy mighty .. " might criticize the loss of speed here ... but those people I feel have altogether missed the point to rotting christ .... PASSION is the word ... there are other melodic bands around too .. but I have heard only a few that put this indescribable feeling to their atmosphere ... its just as intense as it was with "thy mighty .. " beautiful soulful music that makes you feel contemplatingly sad/angry in a very passionate way. The songs are "relatively" slow but all the beauty is there ... there is much more solo and lead guitar work ... most, in fact nearly all of the riffs and compositions use higher scaled guitar work in parallel with the main guitar e-chord riffs .... the parallelism adds a lot of brains to the possibilities and give a feeling of well-thought-outness to the whole music. My score is defintely 10 out of 10 ... if you're into melodic metal this one is not to be missed ..... just to give a more definite picture ... my favorites include katatonia/opeth/mydyingbride etc. so anybody with these kind of tastes certainly needs to hear this one too.

1996's Triarchy of the Lost Lovers is RC's triumph and masterpiece. It is among the best extreme metal albums every made. Each song strikes a different chord inside the listener, making each song unique in delivery, yet the songs reign in the realm of the album. The drums especially the snare drum hit with a clear resonance. Though the guitars are low tuned for the Death/Black metal genre, they emit sound clearly and in the perfect space inside the open air of the album's production. At times Sakis nearly whispers and can be heard just as well as the loudest guitar. Though Rotting Christ are unquestionably an Extreme Metal group, playing the heaviest on Triarchy is not a primary goal, and hardly a secondary goal. The combination of distinctly heard guitar riffs that have the perfect tone and overdrive and the impeccable melody and sublime guitar harmony throughout makes the album pace at a nearly enchanting speed. Triarchy is one of the best extreme metal albums, and makes the case that this extreme genre of rock can not only be uncompromisingly heavy and brutal, but also uncompromisingly beautiful and artistic.

I have to give this album 5 stars because in my opinion this is the best Rotting Christ album(with Theogonia in 2nd and Non Serviam in a close 3rd) and one of the most influential pieces of music to me. This album is seriously one that you can get lost in. Sakis layers the guitars in a hypnotic density. This album never gets as fast as some of the earlier or more current Rotting Christ. It seems that the album dwells around mid-tempo. It's kind of a mix between a doom metal and black metal vibe. The lyrics on this album are very abstract, but they add to the mysterious tone that Sakis and company create. Some of the best Rotting Christ songs are here; "Snowing Still" is a dreary December eulogy of music. "The Opposite Bank" is a melodic doom metal opus that harkens back to Non Servium. "King of a Stellar War" opens the album with a call to arms that almost sounds like progressive avant-garde metal. But my absolute favorite Rotting Christ song of all time is "The First Field of The Battle". The main riff on this song is enough to envision the story that Sakis is trying to tell. IF you go into this album expecting to mosh to it in your parent's basement then you will be dissapointed. But this album is definitly perfect during a bleak, snowy and dismal gray winter day. . .

Triarchy is one of my favorite albums by Rotting Christ. Sakis, their singer, delivers Deathishlike vocals. Unlike the previousreviewer, I can understand everything he saying. No problemswhatsoever. The one thing about this release and other albums by RC, are the catchy rhythym, greatmind blowing quitar riffs, and awesome keyboards. If you're intomelodic Black/Death metal, this is for you.

4.5 stars. Melodic Death style and tremendous guitar riffage abounds on this very solid recording. The weakest part of the band, and this is up for opinionated debate, are the vocals. I can't understand anything this guy is saying, but after referring to the lyrics(which are good, by the way), some of the words are starting to come through. But the undeniable strength of this band is the lead guitar work, which is melodic and catchy, and provokes heartfelt playing of air-guitar. The bass guitar is not memorable, but is a sustaining factor noentheless. While the drumming here continues to impress me the more times I hear the album. I will be seeking out more albums from this band in the near future, so I would recommend starting with this album as a first purchase. It has inspired me to look for more, and I'm sure it will inspire others. Take it easy.

this effort lacks the intense energy of Khronos and genesis but holds its own nonetheless. This album broods and is more restrained than the bands latest work. This album makes a nice warmdown from the energy of genesis. The vocals growl out and you can sense the intensity simmering below the surface but it never really comes thru. Thus, triarchy leaves you waiting for a climax of sorts, some form of release that never really happens. still, a worthy addition to ones rotting christ collection.
