From Booklist
Dedicated triathletes, provided they are also dedicated readers, will find much of value in this extremely detailed guide to what is perhaps the world's most demanding sport. The author begins with a glossary of scientific and physiological terms used in the book: consider it a harbinger of what is to come. The next six chapters offer an exhaustive look at swimming, cycling, and running, the three elements of the triathlon. Only the committed will survive the author's lectures on such arcane topics as the hand's angle of entry in swimming or the appropriate crank length in cycling. More general information follows on training techniques and psychology. Despite the density of information, the book is clearly written and features useful outlines at the beginning of each chapter detailing what is to follow. Recommended for sports collections serving triathletes. Scott Wilkens
