Book Description

February 26, 2004

No matter what distances you're training for, Triathlon Training offers expert guidance for improving your racing from start to finish. Triathlon Training contains six race-specific programs—two for sprint distances, two for Olympic distances, one for the half Ironman, and one for the Ironman. The sprint and Olympic programs include target race times to help you choose the best program for yourself, based on your ability level. It also details a 12-week, step-by-step, base-building program that you can use to work up to racing distances.

The instruction, time management tips, and drills in Triathlon Training will help you make the most effective use of each training day. Insights from athletes' profiles and information on nutrition, supplements, and equipment offer additional ways to maximize training as you prepare for competition. The book examines the most common triathlon injuries, offers advice on preventing those injuries, and details how to treat and recover from them, should they occur.

A full-color book with more than 200 photos, Triathlon Training was developed in consultation with USA Triathlon and the British Triathlon Association. Whether you are considering your first triathlon or are committing yourself to Ironman competition, this book will help put you on the path to a successful finish.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Triathlon Training is a terrific resource. It provides excellent coverage of technique, training, and injury advice. And the programs are straight from the experts—you'll improve your time no matter what distance you want to race.

Tim Yount
Deputy director, USA Triathlon

From Running.about.com
“The thing I like the most about this book by Michael Finch are the short biographical sketches throughout. Oh yes, training schedules, tri-gear and training techniques all have their part in as comprehensive a work as this. However, the knowledge, inspiration and guidance we can all gain from reading about the greats in the sport are, to me, more valuable than all the training schedules in the world.”

From RunnersWeb.com
“Triathlon Training offers expert guidance for improving your racing from start to finish.”

From Rocky Mountain Sports
“A great resource whether you're new to the sport or looking to notch your racing up a level."

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR NEWBIES GETTING STARTED..., August 24, 2004
This review is from: Triathlon Training (Paperback)
I had never done anything even close to a triathlon, so this book took me step by step from day one to race day. I followed their 12 week program that prepared me for a successfull race. Great tips, great questions answered for those who don't have a clue, AND the book advances from newbie to elite with it's training if you chose to do another race.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insider tips are most helpful, September 24, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Triathlon Training (Paperback)
This textbook has been edited concisely and is loaded with excellent drawings and pictures which illustrate most of the points the author wants to get across. Though the book is not all encompassing, it has numerous pearls of wisdom that only a personal discussion with a world class triathelete could come close to matching (and even then it would not be quite as productive). Many times reading this textbook I got the feeling that the author was sitting next to me and giving me practical tips which I have now applied and have improved my times dramatically. It would take a lifetime to accumulate the experience that Michael Finch presents in a concise, clear format. I would most highly reccomend this book at all levels, but particularly in your first two to three years of triathalons.
