Positive results were almost immediate in my 4-5 class.,

This review is from: Tribes, A New Way of Learning and Being Together (Paperback)
When I first read Tribes I was concerned about giving up valuable curricular time for Tribes activities but I was desperate! The net result in my 4-5 combination class was a tremendous increase in productive teaching and learning. Even my most difficult students are now productive members in our room. As a new teacher this book allowed me to keep my sanity and created a cohesive, warm, and fun place to learn. Thank you Jeanne Gibbs!

I am a Teacher Assistant and work with Special Need students. The Teacher and myself use tools in this book everyday. It offers fantastic ideas and strategies for the classroom, no matter what age group. I work with 7yr old to 12 yr olds. They all benefit from the activities in this book. It is a good idea to have it with you in the classroom and to use it spontaneously when an incident may arise. It is a very user fiendly book. I highly recommend it.

This review is from: Reaching All by Creating Tribes Learning Communities (Paperback)
This is the best resource I used in my 15 years of teaching. Every classroom teacher should have this book. If you incorporate the activities into your teaching program you will have a community of learners who support, care, and learn with each other.

Tribes Methods Really Work!,

This is a really great way to organize teaching strategies to include all cultures and all types of learners. The methodologies build communities and teach appreciation of diversity, not division.

We are a TRIBES school and this book guides you down the road with activities for helping make your class a cooperative community. It even has energizers. We use them as a brain break, five or so minutes to helps students wake up and get ready for the next activity.

This book was more than worth the price. Everything in this book is useful and pertinent. I love the concepts... learning by doing, and developing a sense of community (the "tribal learning community" suits my 4th graders very well.) They have readily accepted and are learning the concepts I gleaned from this fantastic book. We study California history in 4th grade, so my groups now have the names of our California tribes. The ideas in this book are easy to put into action. I would like to see an updated version done... (I have the 30th anniversary issue copyright 2006) and/or some in-service trainings on Tribes. (A useful inservice training would be a nice change from the usual brain numbing experience!) Tribes is a proven quantity... so maybe we should pause in our constant search for a new way to reform education and try revisiting/updating the ideas that have worked in the past!
