Wonderful book,

This review is from: Tribes of the Vampire: The Jaded Hunter (Book Two) (Paperback)
Jaden is half human, half vampire. Tyr is a Dark Knight for the Vampire Council. Jaden's mission in life is to destroy vampires that feed off humans. Tyr's mission is to destroy humans that kill vampires. Jaden is a very strong female character and Tyr is exceptional. This was my first Michelle Pillow book and I absolutely loved it. It had great action scenes, a wonderful love story and had me sitting on the edge of my chair finishing it. I highly recommend this book.

This book goes away from the woman being the most beautiful and so instantly becoming the vampire's choice for a mate. In this book, the heroine is just as complexly drawn as the vampire. It is her storyline that makes a twist by her wanting to be the one to end it all due to the monotony of constant killings, especially the mistaken killing of her father. Through this decision, she meets one of the oldest vampires, who is one of the protector's of the race.
I like that both characters have a strong strengh of character in that they are trying to do what they feel is right and honorable, even if it isn't always what they want personally. This is where the conflict in the book springs from. It also provides a stronger connection btwn the characters then the basic "you are the only one for me since I set eye's on you". Those books can still be entertaining, but this one is a better read. There is the standard frustration due to not always having open, honest communication between the characters, but that is common in many of these stories and I found that it didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the book. In this book you also meet the governing council of vampires, which is mentioned in book one and book three. The council reminds me of the typical bored vampires, however the emphasis here is how hard of a time living that long can be and that it can be hard to constantly adapt to the constant change going on when you just want to cling to what's familiar.

I can't believe I'm the first to review this book on Amazon....Anyway, I loooooved it. There was just enough vamp lore, romance and action going on. Very emotional read too, couldn't finish it until early morning. However, hopefully this author is going to follow up with this thread of the story (what will become of Tyr and Jade) as I saw that her next book in this series follows a different thread. If you love Vamps, Christine Feehan, Sherri Kenyon then this book is for you.
I would give it 6 stars if I could...

Michelle M. Pillow never ceases to amaze her fans. Her writing has progressed and has reached hidden depths with each book.
This is the second book in the Tribes of the Vampire series. Here, we see Jaden, half mortal, half vampire. She has been trained to kill vampires and spends her nights hunting the dark creatures that roam the streets looking for food. Being a dhampire she is more than armed for the job. She has never doubted her cause, or her Uncle's mission. But one night, a mission goes badly wrong and she finds herself doubting all she has been brought up to believe. Tyr is a Dark Knight. He belongs to an elite clan of vampires who judges and executes his own, according to the Vampire Council's orders. Fiercely loyal and honourable, he is sent to investigate charges against Jaden and her Uncle. Are they involved in secret experiments with vampires? Are they involved in capturing vampires and for money letting humans torture, rape and kill them? But when Tyr meets Jaden, he is surprised to find a hunter who is sick of the hunt and who only wishes to find peace in death. Truly a wickedly dark, delicious tale, Ms Pillow has used wonderful imagery to bring her whole world of vampires to life. Beautiful descriptive passages help the reader to see, feel and experience the emotions described. Two very complex protagonists, Tyr and Jaden battle their own emotions, their fears, their love, their very beliefs throughout the whole exciting story. The dialogue is sassy, witty, the plot flows at a very good pace, so that the reader is excitedly turning the pages to find out what happens next. There are a bevy of secondary characters that bring the story depth and life. The sex scenes are wonderfully intimate, sensuous, passionate and truly very romantic. Can you tell that this reviewer loved this story? It was difficult to leave and was begging to be read in one sitting. A tale, truly to be read slowly and savour, this reviewer knows for certain that lovers of vampires will be thrilled by this offering from Ms. Pillow. Keep up the good work! This reviewer will be waiting not so patiently for the next one in the series to be published. |
