5.0 out of 5 stars Tribulation is a great movie no matter how you look at it
Other reviews stated that they weren't sure the Book of Revelation is true or not. Others say the portrayal of the great Tribulation isn't all that good, while others loved it.

The movie is an excellant movie. All that it attempts to do is take one of many possible scenarios of how Anti-Christ can rule and control people after God has taken His believers home with Him...

The movie is an excellant movie. All that it attempts to do is take one of many possible scenarios of how Anti-Christ can rule and control people after God has taken His believers home with Him. The movie shouldn't be taken at full face value for that reason because no one knows for sure how anti-Christ will be able to rule and have power.

The route they chose I think is good, because it combines true action, suspense, and sci-fi, that any good movie lover desires. The overall message is there, that there will come a time on our planet when Tribulation will come to all and people will have to choose either faith in God, or the Mark of the beast. Rather than be "preachy" and "bible-thumping" the movie just seeks to portray very well just one possible scenario. I would strongly recommend the movie, the acting is fantastic, the production quality superb, the musical scores are very supportive, it's a great movie. Buy it, you'll see, and ignore any negative reviews.

4.0 out of 5 stars Far exceeded expectations, December 26, 2000

This movie by the makers of Left Behind far exceeded my expectations. I thought this movie was excellent. Unlike some reviewers I felt the acting was at least pretty good and for the most part very good. I was a little worried that I would not be able to follow the movie because I haven't seen Apocalypse or Revelation, but that was not the case. There were times when things got slightly confusing, mostly due to the complex nature of the film. Having some knowledge of end times prophesy is helpful but not necessary to enjoy this film. As a Christian I feel it is important for me to support Christian movies. I was not at all dissapointed by my decision to purchase this DVD. If you are a Christian you must see this movie. If you are not a Christian but would like to see a clean movie (there is some violence) without nudity or bad language then I highly recommend this movie.

That may be because there were real actors hired for this film. You do not need to have seen the previous movies to enjoy this movie. In this movie we follow police detective played by Gary Busey and his family. The timeline starts before the rapture where our detective ends up in a coma. He awakens two years later to a changed world where a self-proclaimed Messiah is ruling a world at peace. Well that is if you do not take into the account the resistance groups of Christians.

Busey's charter learns that millions have disappeared, including his sister, and no one seems to remember they ever existed. As he tries to figure out what is transpiring he searches for his family. He has trouble accomplishing daily task in his search as he learns you must have the mark of the beast in order to do or buy anything. And once again the Virtual Reality theme is back in this film. The best scene is actually at the end of the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Apocalypse Now!, September 4, 2004
This review is from: Tribulation (DVD)
I was extremely unsure of seeing the new end times thriller critics raved about called Tribulation. Other than Gary Busey, who I knew as Buddy Holly in his younger years, I knew none of the other cast except for Leigh Lewis who I had seen in the previous two films in the Apocalypse series, both very good.

After seeing Tribulation, I immediately went out and bought the DVD along with the next movie in line, Judgment, which I will also be writing a review for. Tribulation is one of the greatest end times movies there is, as it provides in whatever state you are, in whatever position you're in, you can be taken in the Rapture, or be left behind. It's your choice which.

Top policeman Tom Canboro (Gary Busey) is on a seemingly normal night drive, when his car suddenly and mysteriously malfunctions sending him careening into oncoming traffic, plowing right into a big rig, sending poor Tom into temporary oblivian. After waking up 1 1/2 years later to find himself a different looking man, he realizes he's not the only one to undergo a strange change.

The world that he once knew is flipped upside down. Everyone seems to be supporting a new world leader named Franco Macalousso, and his strange looking new mark which is just a plain 666. As strange as this may seem, people that had once existed before Tom had his accident are nowhere in town, and the people that are still left don't remember anything that these people ever existed. Even his own brother who took the mark doesn't remember anything about their sister Eileen (Margot Kidder) who was a Christian. Guess Tom will just have to trust in someone else than his own family.

You won't understand a thing about a lot of the characters in this film until you see the other two Apocalypse, and Revelation. It's all worth it though. They give you some great insight to the Tribulation, and also provide some good entertainment. Take it from a Christian.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth watching!, July 10, 2001

This review is from: Tribulation [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I accepted Jesus Christ as my Saviour in 1986 and since then I have been interested in the book of Revelation. I have heard different interpretations of what will happen in the Rapture and tribulation period, and I think it will be very different from what was depicted in this movie. I think the Anti-Christ will be more normal and human and subtle than he was depicted in this video. Some things that were very good about the movie were the wonderful acting by Gary Busey. Especially near the end. He really got into the character. Another good thing was the message that having a relationship with our creator, Jesus Christ is the most important goal and priority we should have. Some day soon everyone will realise that it is ALL that matters. I recommend you watch this series of videos and then read the book of Revelation...get a bible called The Message...it is really easy to understand, also read the book of Romans and John. Most of all get to know Jesus, He`s real and waiting to hear from you : ) He is just a prayer away.

3.0 out of 5 stars Having reviewed so many Exorcist films, well, it's only fair..., October 1, 2010
This review is from: Tribulation (DVD)
Andre van Heerden directed and Paul Lalonde wrote TRIBULATION (2000), not one of the dumbest of Christian-video politprop...but certainly one of the harder to follow ones.

A cop, Det. Tom Canboro, finds himself arguing theology with his nuclear family including his brother Calvin (Joseph Ziegler), fellow agnostic, sister Eileen (an amazing appearance by Margot Kidder), religious nut, fellow agnostic wife Suzie (Sherrie Miller, he doesn't fight with her), and one inexplicable idiot named Jason Quincy (Howie Mandel, not so annoying here).

Well, I must explain the biblical Book of Revelation as well as the work of St. Paul so you can follow. See, the "Rapture" is the sucking-up of all good Christians by Jesus. This is an event that takes place in the sky, so it is NOT the Second Coming. Just the First Disappearing. Got that?

After this occurs, the Holy Spirit itself will allegedly abandon us, leaving the time of the Tribulation (hence title)--when the antichrist will come and rule for seven years. (Here the creep is played courtesy of the ever operatic Nick Mancuso.) During the Tribulation, people will just have to find Jesus for themselves, with no grace from heaven. It is only at the end of the Tribulation that Jesus will return for the second time and settle down on earth, finally. You follow?

Good, I just gave you the first 25 years of my life's worth of learning up there. Read it again and get it straight! (Now you all know why I am no longer a Christian.)

This film is very clever in that it does not hit so hard or so offensively with the propaganda--not like the laughable and revolting LEFT BEHIND series. Busey is actually funny and convincing as the left-behind cop who finds faith in Jesus.

Appearances by two of my favorite televangelists, the married couple Drs. Jack and Rexella Van Impe, on a then-recent tv broadcast, is skillfully done. After all good Christians are taken up, you see, a band of resistance-against-the-antichrist fighters are broadcasting episodes of the popular tv show "Jack Van Impe". I was delighted to see the appearance, and I wonder how deeply involved Dr. Van Impe was with this picture. The antichrist is a more solid figure, though Mancuso is never subtle or skilled, and he convinced me that something a bit like this could really happen.

Here he controls the world by granting people Jedi-like powers through false, evil technology. Of course, the antichrist is possessed by Lucifer and thus wields Lucifer's power. Though that last theological point is debated, Mancuso is certainly as diabolical as he can manage. He even lets out a creepy laugh, BWAAAA-HA-HA-HA-HA ad infinitum (that is until he stops laughing).

All in all it is a rather clever film, but do NOT expect to learn any actual theology here. There are warring Christian views in the world today (Millennialists, Tribulationists, Dispensationalists) and this film includes a bit of each hash. There is no clear answer as to what is occurring, and aside from a snippy little correction at the beginning of the film, absolutely no instruction.

Even the semi-schizophrenic Howie Mandel escapes the antichrist's hypnotic powers somehow, and is redeemed. (I think he's redeemed...we're never shown that part.) So you have to learn on your own that the people who find themselves in TRIBULATION are without the Holy Spirit to guide them, and if they want saving at the last minute, they will have to convert (and some will have to die). Busey does one hell of a conversion scene.

Anyway, all I can add is stay the hell away from this thing if you are not religious or not remotely Christian. Unlike so many Christian things, this isn't offensive, as I said, and you may like it.

However, you may not like it or what it preaches.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Endtime Movie I've Ever Seen!!!!!!!, February 2, 2001
By
This review is from: Tribulation [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I loved this movie!! It's really great, and I was glad to see such bigname actors as Gary Busey and Howie Mandel in it. The acting was great, and the suspense and the story were super-cool! What gets me is why everybody has the Mark of the Beast on their hand and nobody has it on their forehead. Not that I'd ever take it, no sir; it's just that the prophecy says that the Mark of the Beast can go on the forehead as well as the right hand. Other than that I loved the movie. Even if you don't believe in this stuff, you'll love it anyway. This film is even better than all the Left Behind books put together (no joke)!!!!!! Eschatology has always fascinated me, be it the Christian vision of the Second Coming/Armageddon or the Norse myth's vision of Ragnarok. So it's only natural that I would like a movie such as this. I used to believe in this stuff, but nowadays I question whether the book of Revelation is to be taken literally. Still, I liked the movie. Nick Mancuso as the Antichrist was superb! Franco Macalousso has Damien Thorne and Nicolae Carpathia beat! And as someone who has recently regained his faith, I can identify with Gary Busey's character, especially at the end of the film.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent movie, June 7, 2001

This is an excellent movie in the apocalypse series.

This one is Part III

The movie is a bit conusing in the first 15-25 minutes or so because they portray events which took place before even the events of thr first movie took place.

The first 5 minutes of this movie take place some 30 years before the first movie starts and the nest 15-20 minutes take place some 3 months before the first movie.

This may not be apparent the first time you view the film. It wasn't for me, but it may be for others.

This film portrays the Tribulation which takes place after the Rapture.

A man who slipped into a coma before the Rapture and wakes up several months later, some good time after the Rapture has happened. He searches for family and loved ones and learns about what happened and that it was the doing of God himself and that the Antichrist is now in control of a one world government.

They try to let more know about Jesus and save them from losing their souls to Satan.

3.0 out of 5 stars Would love to give 5 stars, March 22, 2002
This review is from: Tribulation [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This should've been a better movie. Unfortunately, some of the main characters were not at their best but great performances were given by Sherri Miller (Busey's wife) and Howie Mandel (who knew!). This movie doesn't really advance the series but just seems to be a few months ahead of where Revelation left off and deals with basically the same material except that it's happening to a new set of players on grander sets with better special effects. Overall, a little above average but still a notch below mainstream video fare-- hopefully this is just growing pains for the industry. I'd love to give 5 stars just for the fact that they've tackled this subject matter but I don't think these films are at that level...yet. -- Moza
