I was there that night. The love for the man permeated the theater. Billy Joe has seen his share of hard times, but his faith in Jesus (even in these times when that seems to be a politically incorrect thing to say)and the love of his admiring fellow songwriters has gotten him through. The night after his son, Eddie, died (as Todd Snider, dropping his usual ironic stance so eloquently sings about in Waco Moon), Billy Joe was scheduled to play New Years Eve at Poodie's, a honky-tonk in Spicewood, Texas. Billy Joe was, understandably, devastated. His friend, Willie Nelson, himself a Spicewood resident, got Billy Joe on stage and the two just played songs for each other until three in the morning. No dry eyes in the house.

I tell you all of that to give you a littel backgrond on Waco Moon and to give you an idea on how highly Billy Joe is held as a Texas institution.

At the birthday celebration, stars and soon-to-be stars stood in line to sing Billy Joe's praises. It was one of the great musical nights of my life, and for those who missed it, at least you can get a feel for it through this excellent CD.

Kinky Friedman, who is running for Governor of Texas (and might win like a wrestler from Minnesota did, surprising everyone) has said that the day after his inauguration, he will install Billy Joe as the poet laureate of Texas. Listen to this CD, and you'll get an idea why.

Billy Joe will, indeed, Live Forever.

I cannot take this CD out of my player. I love the stories that Todd Snider, Jack Ingram, Joe Ely, Robert Earl Keen and all the others tell about their songwriting hero, Billy Joe Shaver. And the songs are incredible! I highly recommend this album!

Great, such a tribute for such a poet. There are none better than Billy Joe.

This is an excellent collection of Billy Joe's wonderful musical work done by him and some of his fans who happen to be outstanding performers in their own right.If you are not a Billy Joe Shaver fan, just listen and you will be.
