5.0 out of 5 stars I feel strongly Chet would love this tribute
I was very happy Steve Wariner had done a tribute to Chet. When I got my copy of this wonderful CD and listened to all the tracks, the words, "very happy" seem inaquate. I go back many years loving anything done by Chet. I'm 70yrs old and remember Chet from the early 50's. The first record I bought for my new single play "record player" circa 1953 was a 78rpm of...

3.0 out of 5 stars Atkins tribute falls short
I bought this CD, by Atkins disciple guitarist Steve Warriner, through Amazon after hearing Warriner on the Prairie Home Commpanion radio show play impeccably in Atkins' patented finger picking style, which I've always loved. I'm somewhat disappointed in it, however, for reasons paralleling Woody Allen's review of the food at a Borscht Belt hotel: it wasn't so good and...

The first record I bought for my new single play "record player" circa 1953 was a 78rpm of Chet's "I've Got Rhythm" on one side and "Hybrid Corn" on the other. My second was another 78rpm of Chet's "Wildwood Flower" backed with "The Bells of St Mary". I wore out many needles playing those two platers. If you get this CD and you're a fan, you'll be very happy with it. If you're more than a "fan" and you're heart has always been in tune with Chet's, as so many of our hearts have been and always will be, you'll probably tear up some and say, "Thanks Steve, you gave us a treasure". 5.0 out of 5 stars A must for fingerstyle guitar lovers!, December 21, 2009
This review is from: My Tribute to Chet Atkins (Audio CD)
If you like Chet, Steve or finger/thumb style, you'll want this one for your collection. Not just a reproduction of traditional Chet. Steve has his own touch. You can't help but appreciate the rich tones Steve has perfected and a flawless/pure recording quality that only comes from decades of experience and influence.

I had heard of Steve Wariner but had never really listened to his music. When I heard him recently on Prairie Home Companion I was taken aback. I immediately made a note of his new record and purchased it. I cannot believe the skill this guy has in finger-style guitar! What is admirable about this tribute record is that he does not try to be Chet- he has arranged all the music on this record and it shines through as a heart-wrenching piece of work. I was particularity impressed with Blue Angel and his use of matching chords with violin on 6120. A sheer pleasure to listen to!

5.0 out of 5 stars Chet Atkins fans will enjoy this tribute, June 30, 2010

Steve Wariner played with Chet for a while and absorbed his style in a really nice way. The songs are great and varied; you can hear Chet's influence all over the place. One of the things I love about Atkins's playing is that he maintained an astonishing balance: there was always the Travis influence that made for slick, smooth fingerpicking, yet there was always amazing feeling in every run, no matter how complex the run. In addition, when it was time to rock, he could do that too, as he did in his incredible Beatles tribute or when he played with Kpnoffler. It was quite a feat, and Wariner continues right where Chet stopped; I couldn't pay him-in my opinion-a higher compliment. As you can tell, I liked this...

I listened to this CD before buying it for my husband. I loved it and I am not a guitar player. My husband is and loves this CD also. He did not know that Steve Wariner was so talented. Ok I should say so good with a guitar. He has always loved Chet Atkins and is amazed with the music on this CD.

This is a master guitarist who had worked with CHet Atkins before launching his own solo career as both singer and guitarist. I really enjoyed his abilities and take on the Chet Atkins guitar style.

Wariner has always been one of my favorites. I have nearly all of his CDs. This is one of his finest. My favorite is "No More Mr. Nice Guy." Although I absolutely love his instrumentals, He also has a very good voice. It's been missing in his last few CDs. I hope his next CD has more voice!! Excellent CD this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have disc for fans of Mr. Atkins, February 18, 2011
This review is from: My Tribute to Chet Atkins (Audio CD)
My wife recently got this for me as a Valentine's Day gift and what a gift it is! As Wariner worked in the studio and on stage with Chet for many years, with this release he proves he really honed in on the Chet Atkins guitar artistry and warmth of emotion conveyed by the picking style of Mr. C.G.P. himself. I love this disc and if you are a fan of Chet, you'll definitely want to get this for your collection. It's a perfect tribute to Chet Atkins and is a stand-out release in any collection of instrumental guitar albums. Thank you, Steve Wariner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Record, January 30, 2010

Steve Wariner does a great job here with this tribute to his old pal Chet Atkins. If you love Chet Atkins, you will love this recording. Wariner is a great player in his own right, one of only a few that Chet gave the designation CGP- certified guitar player, and he lives up to that title here, playing tunes that Chet played, and ones that he himself wrote to honor The Man. It's a great record, and the liner notes and background information for each song are interesting too. Highly recommended.
