This review is from: Tribute to Chopin [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This tape is a series of clips from what apears to be an old movie in which Rubinstein appears. He converses with others on the set and suggests that he will play such and such piece which he does with typical bombast. If you're a Rubinstein fan you'll like seeing him at work, especially in the Polonaise, but the sound is of poor quality by modern standards. In places it almost fades into silence.

The tape runs 25 minutes and contains four selections: Mazurka in C-sharp minor, Op 10 No 4; Scherzo in C-sharp minor, Op 39; Nocturne in F-sharp major, Op 15 No 2; Polonaise in A-flat major, Op 53;

The camera work emphasizes the artist, so there i s not much opportunity to view the keyboard. The picture is made very dark during the Nocturne so that the keyboard is barely visible.

The black and white movie is of average quality for 1950. The acting is stilted.

The video of Rubinstein's concert for Israel is much much better. Unless you must have every available clip of Rubinstein's music, save you're money.
