Curtis, We Love You,
By Warren S. Demurjian (Cherry Hill, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tribute to Curtis Mayfield (Audio CD)
This All-Star tribute to Curtis Mayfield is one of my all-time favorite pieces of music, especially for driving in the car. The variety of music, voice, and interpretation is a complete joy. From Aretha and Gladys to Springsteen and Clapton, almost anyone who's "anyone" in popular music contributed to this testament to the wonderfully poignant songwriting skills of the great Curtis Mayfield! Whether you own 100 soul records or just one, you must add this disk to your collection.

Great CD... I picked up this CD as a 3 number (there was two other CD's that I bought that day - I can't remember what they were)but this is the CD that I have worn out. If you are into the evolution of music this is a good text book.... Curtis did not get his just due when he died this man help make music what it is today both R&B and Rock. The artist on this CD is great and Curtis's remake of his own classic is awesome. Buy this it should be in everyone collection.

A better than average tribute to a departed Master,

I was concerned when I first bought this album. Curtis Mayfield provided the soundtrack for my life. I follwed him through all the phases of his career, from his "Minstrel" phase, through his "Civil Rights" period, his social consciouness/radical period and finally his "love groove" phase. All of those periods are represented here save the "Superfly" soundtrack. Why no one tackled those tunes is unknown to me, probably publishing rights squabbles. Most of the works here are good if not great. Highlights for me are BB King's "The Woman's Got Soul", Aretha's, "The Making's of You", Phil Collin's haunting and soulful "Keep on Trying" and lastly Stevie Wonder's joyouns "I'm the one that Loves You". No slouches on this album. From Springsteen to Lenny Kravitz they're here and they represent. Almost a "must have".

I bought this CD for Whitney Houston's rendition of "Look Into Your Heart". I really don't know much about Curtis Mayfield so I will leave that to the other reviewers! But I recommend buying this CD even if just for Whitney's song, as you won't find it elsewhere, and it's a very soulful track.

A TRIBUTE TO CURTIS MAYFIELD RECORDED BY VARIOUS ARITISTS PAYING TRIBUTE TO MR. MAYFIELD.SOME OF THE SONGS DONE BY THE ARTISTS ARE REALLY GOOD. SUCH AS THE ONES SUNG BY GLADYS KNIGHT, WHITNEY HOUSTON, TEVIN CAMPBELL, ARETHA FRANKLIN, PHIL COLLINS, ELTON JOHN, ARE REALLY THE GOOD ONES. ESPECIALLY "KEEP ON PUSHING" RECORDED BY TEVIN CAMPBELL! THAT'S MY "BOY"! HE CAN PERFORM ANYTHING THAT COMES HIS WAY. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE WHEN YOU JUST WANT TO HEAR DIFFERENT ARTISTS AT ONE TIME ON THE SAME CD. ON A SCALE OF 1-5 I RATE IT A 4. NOT BAD AT ALL.
