This 2CD set is recorded live on Oct. 15, 1989 at Koln. KJ does groan a bit too much in maybe 2,3 of the songs, but it's not particularly bad comparing to his other albums. This is a beautiful album and for some reason, it seems to me that Jack DeJohnette's drum is particularly hot and sweet that day. I also love the ending "U Dance" very much, really groovy. My only complain is, the audience applause in "All the things you are" (around 2 min into the play) sounds a little weird. It's like it's added in later (?)

All the Things you are as fugue? Yes, you bet,

Just the fantastic intro to All the Things is well worth the price of this set. Simply fantastic. As usual, everybody else plays great as well, so there is nothing to think about. Just get this! Casper

Hey I wanted to thank the editor for including "Tribute" among the essential Keith Jarrett CDs and for the hearty recommendations from the rest of the contributors. It's beautiful. I especially enjoy "U Dance". Thanks for helping me add this to my collection!

Music/Jazz as fine art - The trio at the peak of their powers,
By
This review is from: Tribute (Mlps) (Audio CD)
This music is sublime. Nothing I write can convey its and beauty and force. For the initiated, I'll note that I have every one this trio's discs. "Tribute" ranks with their VERY best (Standards Vol. I and II, Standards Live, Complete At The Blue Note).

Classic Jarrett -- great standards, great non-standards.,

From standards such as "All the Things You Are" through the strangely moving "Ballad of the Sad Young Men" to the joyous "U Dance," this is the best jazz CD Jarrett has released, for my money.

I rate this double album 4 stars only because it has the greatest amount of Keith's moaning and groaning. And it really bothers me. Other than that, this is one of the best sets of the prodigious trio.

Unsufferable De Johnette,

Of course this record contains one of the best intro to All The Things You Are ever..
But you also have to undergo one of the most unsufferable drummer ever, especially on the ballads.. I was listening to this CD while driving, and De Johnette was such a P.I.T.A during Ballad Of The Sad Young Men that I took the CD from the player, open the window, and threw it on the highway.. |
