Nice to See, June 11, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Tribute To Led Zeppelin: Stairway To Heaven (Audio CD)
Usually when you listen to a tribute album ( especially for an influencial band like zepplin) you become horrified as your favorite songs are ground into garbage. With this cd that is not the case, most of the tracks stay very true to the original while the performing artist(s) add their own flavor to the song. Zakk Wylde does an especialy good job on Goin to California Good Times Bad Times and the Stairway To Heaven solo. Its nice to see a Tribute Album where classics aren't butchered!

OK, I know. It's a lot to spend for a single CD in this age of dollar-a-song downloads. But hear me out...
I'm a HUGE Zeppelin fan. There's a lot of CD's that purport to be "tributes." This CD delivers!
"Black Dog", "Stairway To Heaven", "Going To California", "Good Times Bad Times", and "Kashmir" all played by Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society) on guitar faithfully executing some pretty hallowed Jimmy Page riffs. Zakk respects Zeppelin and it shows. Evens sings on "Going To California" and "Good Times Bad Times"...
Add to it:
*The muscular vocals of Lou Gramm (Foreigner) on "Black Dog", "Stairway To Heaven", & "Heartbreaker"...
*Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) sings on "Communication Breakdown" & "Immigrant Song".
*Vivian Campbell (Def Leppard) plays lead on "Communication Breakdown" with Slash (GN'R, Velvet Revolver).
Got your attention, yet? See where I'm going with this?
*Lita Ford sings on "Rock And Roll" and "Whole Lotta Love".
*Jeff Pilson (Dokken) plays bass on every song.
Don't get me wrong. This isn't BETTER than Led Zeppelin. But if you wanna hear Zeppelin songs covered by some very talented rock musicians, this'd be the CD to get.
Another one of those "If I had a fire in my house, I'd have to rescue it" CD's for your collection.
