Feel Good Tunes, but Not enough of em!, April 16, 2002
This review is from: Tribute to Neil Diamond: Forever in Bluegrass (Audio CD)
If you ever told me that I would be walking the streets of NYC listening to bluegrass covers of Neil Diamond songs, I would've called you crazy! But that's exactly what happened. Although not a die-hard fan of bluegrass, I do appreciate it. I am, however, a die-hard Neil Diamond fan. By and large these covers are really good but the CD only has 11 tracks totaling a little over 30 minutes! Come on guys, CDs can hold up to 80 minutes these days! I wanted to hear more, more, more!! The version of "America" is especially good as is "Solitary Man." I was disappointed by "Beautiful Noise" because I felt that the musicians could've done more with it than they did. The instrumentation is great and the musicians are topnotch. Also, it was nice to hear a cover of an obscure tune, "Mama Don't Know." I wish there were more of these. I could live a long life without new versions of the tired, wretched "Song Sung Blue," Diamond's worst song ever!! And I was also disappointed in "Forever in Blue Jeans" that seemed to meander right from the very beginning.
This is a must-have for fans of Neil Diamond and bluegrass. But give us our money's worth next time!
