5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Re-make
When I first heard the beginning of this song, I thought-wow...this one sounds familiar but I couldn't put my mind to what it was. And after listening further into the song I realized it was a re-make of Sting (The Police)'s "I'll Be Watching You" but with a different spin off lyric wise. 3.0 out of 5 stars Making Money Off of a Tragedy
This cd has 3 songs, and 2 instrumentals. The first song, "I'll be Missing You," is good enough in theory. It sounds pretty good, the samples are used beautifully, Faith Evans sounds great, and Puffy sounds sincere enough. But when you hear about how this song was created, anytime you hear it, you'll feel a little bit guilty, which really takes away from the listening...

When I first heard the beginning of this song, I thought-wow...this one sounds familiar but I couldn't put my mind to what it was. And after listening further into the song I realized it was a re-make of Sting (The Police)'s "I'll Be Watching You" but with a different spin off lyric wise. As you probably already know, this single was produced in rememberence of the rapper Notorious BIG who passed away around 1997 when the single was released. It features Faith Evans who is the widow of Notorious BIG. In addition it also features the group 112 who sings at the end. All these people from the famed Bad Boy Family create a stunning song! I know some people bashed Puffy about "copying" a song but obviously I'm not the only one who likes it as the average customer review is 5 Stars. It made me think of my aunt who passed away not to long before this single was released and it had a lot of meaning for me. I hope they sometime release the performance of this single (Along with Sting) at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards, which was just...incredible. Definatly Reccomended to anyone who has heard it, enjoyed the Sting version or has lost an Important person in their life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tearfully Beautiful Remix, June 10, 2001

This review is from: Tribute To The Notorious B.I.G. (Audio CD)
Though produced in remembrance of the Notrious B.I.G., this is a CD sound track that could be tributed to/by anyone. It's a cd that is both bitter and sweet... which is why I love it and listen to it often in memory of my lost loved one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Making Money Off of a Tragedy, July 23, 2011
This review is from: Tribute To The Notorious B.I.G. (Audio CD)
This cd has 3 songs, and 2 instrumentals. The first song, "I'll be Missing You," is good enough in theory. It sounds pretty good, the samples are used beautifully, Faith Evans sounds great, and Puffy sounds sincere enough. But when you hear about how this song was created, anytime you hear it, you'll feel a little bit guilty, which really takes away from the listening experience. This song was the hit that put Puffy in the spotlight and began his music career (prior to this, he was best known as the guy in Biggies songs who said 'uh huh, yeah' and 'bad boy'. While again, the lyrics sound earnest, they were not written by Puffy. To me, this is as shameless as Milli Vanilli, and in a song about something so serious, there should have been a lot less showmanship. In fact, the whole song comes off as an attempt to capitalize on Biggie's death. The things that made this song good (the lyrics, the sound, the subject matter) are all something puffy has ripped off of someone else. This song was a hit, but so was "Girl You Know Its True." Its a good song if you dont know how it was made, kind of like the steak in Japan that they're making out of proteins in human poop. If you know how it was made, your stomach starts to turn and you feel dirty if you start to like it.

The second song on here is "We'll Always Love Big Poppa." To me, this is the best song on the cd. The Lox is a pretty tight group, and the song actually sounds like its specifically dedicated to and written for Biggie, not the airwaves, not for commercial success, and not so general that it could be about any dead person. The third song is by 112, called "Cry On." This is also a fairly solid song, 112 sounds great. The next two tracks are instrumentals, which to me, are just filler. I really wouldn't recommend this cd to anyone, unless you can get it at a dollar bin. I'd recommend anything and everything by Biggie. But this isn't Biggie. If you're interested in the songs on here, get the MP3 version. This cd as a whole is mediocre at best, and an exploitation of the Notorious BIG at the worst.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tribute, November 22, 2003
This review is from: Tribute To The Notorious B.I.G. (Audio CD)
I have to admit I know the name Notorious B.I.G, but have never heard any of his stuff. This song could be a tribute to anyone who's died, as the lyrics aren't particularly aimed at this rapper guy. Faith Evan's lyrics and voice are really terrific and I just feel so sad listening to the song. If you're in one of those moods, where you're missing someone, all you need to do is put on this song - and it makes you worse! No, I'm just kidding. I listen to the song all the time, and you could listen to it, and not realise its a tribute to a dead rapper. You can listen, and make the lyrics relate to anyone who's close. A great song, with loads of potential, but unfortunately, its not played much anymore. Plus, its not exactly available in the shops, as Notorious B.I.G died in 1997, so you'll find it hard to find.

This is the most beautiful song ever. It is a neccessity to living. Yeah, it is rap, but there is something about it, and the basic melody that nothing could equal to. Anyone who listensed to this song once would want the single. It is more than worth it. this song makes me cry so hard but i love it, it is so sweet and true and sad and i guess bittersweet. This song will quickly fill an empty part of anyones heart.
