4.0 out of 5 stars Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was a great tribute in honor of the most important singer in the century

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware if you care about subtitles--or serious opera!
I own many Blu-Ray and DVD opera recordings, and enjoy almost all of them (esp. the Blu-Ray ones), but cannot recommend this production. First, for anyone who is not already intimately familiar with opera and zazuelas (Spanish and Mexican light operas), you won't understand a word of the singing--in French, Italian, and Spanish. Decca cheaped it out and there ARE NO...

4.0 out of 5 stars Emotional Tribute for the Master, September 12, 2009
This review is from: The Tribute to Pavarotti [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Is a perfect tribute for the Master and the quality of all interpeters is fine.
Spetial mention to Sting, and Laura Pausini with Giovanotti ,and Zuchero .

Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras very emotive as always they are.
The Music Quality is impresive.
The video quality is a litle dissaapointed for my taste.

Is fine for a collectors

Concert was staged in historic Petra, in Jordan, an over 2000 year old site (remember "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"). The artists contributing were the likes of Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras to Sting(!), etc. This Blu-Ray is on my short-list of very favorite concerts. Fans of "The Three Tenors" shouldn't miss this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware if you care about subtitles--or serious opera!, January 9, 2012

This review is from: The Tribute to Pavarotti [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I own many Blu-Ray and DVD opera recordings, and enjoy almost all of them (esp. the Blu-Ray ones), but cannot recommend this production. First, for anyone who is not already intimately familiar with opera and zazuelas (Spanish and Mexican light operas), you won't understand a word of the singing--in French, Italian, and Spanish. Decca cheaped it out and there ARE NO SUBTITLES for the singing. Un-friggin-believeable. How hard would that have been? How much would it have cost to pay a grad. student to type them into a subtitle file? (By the way: This is true of many, even most, of Decca's other opera releases on DVD and Blu-Ray, so beware of them too.) Second, the actual performances, in many cases (not all, but many) are a joke. Sting sings opera (or rather doesn't sing it at least not very well). Other pop stars make their celebrity bimbo appearances. Give me a break. Even Sting is clearly embarrassed and makes an apology that he is only doing it because he was asked and couldn't say no (given the "memorial service" nature of the event). Pavarotti himself became increasingly co-opted by the pop-star-celebrity ethos as he aged. (It was a way to save his voice and draw in listeners who wouldn't have listened anyway.) This whole production is as shabby as some of the big man's final concerts in that way; in fact, even worse, since Pavarotti was doing many of them for charity causes like WarChild, but this is meant to be taken seriously as serious music, which (with the fewest of exceptions--just a few memorable, though to repeat unsubtitled, performances) it is emphatically not.

I purchased this blue ray DVD via Amazon with a complete satisfactory. It relfects not only a high qulaity but also the cheapest price without a tax and freight charge (if you purchase two DVD with a combined price of over $25). No retail stores or other on line competitors can offer such low price. I am sure that I will buy more DVD via Amazon.
