Editorial Reviews

At last, from the master tapes, his versions of the cracking early-to-mid 60s soul & R&B classics. The material was chosen from across the R&B landscape, featuring songs originally recorded by Sam & Dave, Sam Cooke, Lee Dorsey, B. B. King on the male side while the female point of view comes from the repertoires of Maxine Brown, Etta James and the Ikettes and includes a gender-switched treatment of Theola Kilgore's The Love Of My Man. These two 1966 albums were recorded in the same sessions with Bobby Scott's band - the one Chuck used on the road - so there is an excellent rapport between Chuck and his musicians. The booklet also includes reproductions of the original artwork and notes.
