Excellent is all I can say about this DVD. I had it on VHS but the DVD version is so clear and the sound is super. Much better then the VHS version.

What a shame the kids of today do not have someone like Ricky to look up too. He, as well as the whole Nelson family, brought my family and I so many years of laughter.

If you are a fan of Ricky Nelson, this DVD is for you. It's highly recommended! And someday I hope there will be other high quality DVD's available of Ozzie, Harriet, David and Rick.

Although the cover of this video is a shot of Ricky at age 16 in all his teen idol glory, Mr. Nelson was much more than a pretty face on a 50's family show. Rick Nelson was a legitimate rock and roll singer, as this show demonstrates. Rick's twin sons Gunnar and Matthew introduce the show at the beginning, and many of Rick's friends are heard from - Fats Domino (Ricky's first hit was a cover of Fats' "I'm Walkin"), Carl Perkins (Rick's favorite singer/guitarist), John Fogerty, the Jordanaires, Jerry Lee Lewis, Kris Kristofferson, Randy Meisner and Roy Orbison. This is not a biography - there's very little about his personal life, apart from a few snippets of interview with Rick himself), very little about his career as an actor on television and in movies. The focus here is Rick the singer. "Teenage Idol", "I'm Walkin" "Travelin' Man", "Believe What You Say", "Hello Mary Lou" and "It's Late" are featured in glorious black and white from the Nelsons tv show. Later clips of Rick in concert show him doing "I Got a Feeling", "Lonesome Town", "She Belongs to Me", "Garden Party" and "That's All Right". One of the things you'll notice is he always surrounded himself with top notch musicians. The legendary James Burton was lead guitarist in Ricky's first band; later, Rick's Stone Canyon Band featured steel guitar genius Tom Brumley, and future Eagle Randy Meisner. Even at the end, with the great Bobby Neal on lead guitar, Rick had one of the best bands in all of rock and roll. This video is a must for all Nelson fans. I hope someday Rhino can release David Nelson's "A Brother Remembers" Disney Channel special - it would be a perfect companion to this tape.

This video is a great tribute to the late,great reknowned actor-singer Ricky Nelson.Hopefully Rhino Home Video and others will agressively pursue the release of his superb 1965 movie"Love and Kisses"!!!!!!!!!!
