Grammy Award Material - It's That Good,

I agree with the previous reviewer who said this was the most unique zydeco album ever. It celebrates the history and the culture and the genre better than any title I've ever heard. In the narrations, Terrance shares his thoughts and feelings about the artists and the contributions they made. Then he and his wonderful band pay tribute the best way they can: they play the artists' songs, and they play their butts off. It is wonderful. THIS IS THE TYPE OF MUSIC THE GRAMMYS SHOULD BE HONORING.I have met Terrance on several occasions, and I can honestly say that he is the new torch bearer for zydeco, determined to honor the past while looking to the future. If you haven't heard him before, this is as good a place as any to start. This album features great jammin' zydeco, soulful vocals, and an overall great vibe. Also noteworthy is his other new CD "Creole for Kids" which is a companion to a program he has developed to bring the music to kids at schools. My kids love it.

The Tribute Sessions,
By A Customer
This review is from: Tribute Sessions (Audio CD)
This CD is the most unique ever released in Zydeco. Terrance Simien is the one artist in zydeco that consistently creates intriguing and thoughtful music. This release is true art and delivered in a tasteful manner that befits each of the artists he pays tribute too. In a time when we all should be more mindful of those that have inspired us, our personal hereo's, Simien leads the way with his expressive narration that sets up a poignant visual image to compliment the music tracks. I saw him on tour with the Dave Matthews Band earlier this year and there is so much more this great artist has to offer and Dave obviously sees this as well. If you can ever see him live, you will be very pleased, inspired and feeling fine for days following! Peace love and Zydeco! A Faithful Beadhead from the good old US if A! BUY THIS TITLE!

Best zydeco album ever....,

...because it honors the artists and songs that bring individuality to this musical style. In much the same way that the Dillards diversified bluegrass music with Wheatstraw Suite, the songs here diversify zydeco beyond the usual accordian/rubboard repetition inherent in the style. Try to find the two disc set, where one disc doesn't have the narration. While the narration is essential to Terrance's story of tribute, it can get bothersome when you just want to listen to the music uninterrupted.

I bought this from Terrance himself at a show this weekend, and my stereo is about to overheat from playing it over & over again. My dogs think I'm crazy because I jump up to dance to each song. I was dubious about the narration before I listened to it, but it helped me appreciate each song even more. Terrance shares very personal memories of each artist, how they inspired or helped him as a young artist, or how they helped Zydeco evolve. I whole-heartedly recommend this to anyone like me, who enjoys Zydeco music but doesn't know much about it and wants to broaden their horizons. And the music is just fantastic. BUY IT!!
