Normally with tribute albums you are not exactly sure what to expect but on this tribute to Suba I am very impressed. There are some reworkings of what are now classic songs from Sao Paolo Confessions as well as a few Suba tracks that would probably have been released soon after Sao Paolo confessions.
Some of the tracks are posthumous collaborations and some are live collaborations between Suba and variuos artists. Some of the remakes have actually, dare I say improved on the originals and overall it is a great album to have in your collection.

Excellent Tribute - But you won't forget the original, May 1, 2002
This review is from: Tributo (Audio CD)
This tribute to the late Suba is a nice piece of work. Tastefully done, with some unreleased tracks from other artists in the nova bossa nova movement are all included. Also, artists from his debut Sao Paulo confessions were also included, such as Katia B, Cibelle, Joao Parahyba. Others contributing were the growing Apollo 9, Marina Lima, Boyz From Brazil and Buscemi.
While this tribute was well done, it certainly will not make you forget Sao Paulo confessions. Rather, it will probably make you appreciate it more. The darkness and subtly and the capture of the spectrum of sound in Sao Paulo confessions just couldn't be captured, despite how good some of the remakes of Suba's tracks were. For instance, listening to Segredo on Tribute then listening to it on Sao Paulo confessions makes you realize how special a talent Suba was. But I felt this most with "Sins Before Dawn", in which the Sao Paolo Confessions one is just so dark and fluid. But the song "Are You Sleeping" touches a nerve to me because it makes me wonder what other gems could Suba have made + reminds me that he was taken far too early. The sound of that track (11) is just so so Suba.
I liked this CD. It certainly is a nice buy, and while it doesn't live up to Sao Paulo confession standards, it is an outstanding tribute to Suba and his work. If you were/are a Suba fan, definitely pick this up.

Suba's echoing soul, January 5, 2007
This review is from: Tributo (Audio CD)
Suba died much to early and in a tragic manner(story has it he tried to save some music in his burning house rather than get out)leaving a void in a tragetory he had created but never fully achieved. His production work was innovative and top notch; his brief contribution to Brazilian-fusion-world-beat has set the standard for all who follow. The Serbian -born musicain /composers work on Bebel Gilberto's "Tanto Tiempo" and his own masterpiece "Sao Paulo Confessions" are discs that through their superlative qualities will be listened to for generations to come. This tribute CD is right up there with the aforementioned discs. If you haven't heard the others there is no problem with this being your starting point; however , starting with "Sao Paulo Confessions" than "Tanto Tiempo" will give you a better perspective of his artistry. There is not a dud on this disc; only degrees of excellence. There is a continuity and cohesive feel to the disc that is rare amongst a coming together of artists on one disc. Cibelle's "Seria, Amor de A'Aqua" is very catchy remake that sets the bar. Cibelle's other contributions are quite nice and sexy as in "Tantos Deseos." The JP and Suba duets "Futuro Primitivo I, II, III" are magnificent collaborations that if listened to back to back are amazing in their elaborate complex structure; the songs are spread throughout the disc but your I-Tunes can arrange them together. The live element of "Futuro Primitivo" enhances the give and take aspect of the percussion and electronic performance. The tribute version of Suba's "Na Neblina" takes on a completely different sound from the original on "Sao Paulo Confessions" but a worthwhile interpretation, although it is a bit spacey. If you liked the work of Suba than you will probably like this tribute. Try this bit of electronica but don't forget his original works too.
