Book Description

October 24, 2006
Tricia Guild is known for her bold fabric, wallpaper designs, and an extraordinary sense of color and pattern. Following the success of her books on color, she now shares her skills with patterns. The book draws on historical and global patterns. Woven or printed or embroidered, patterns inspire Tricia Guild as she uncovers their origins and explores the exotic. Any pattern can be appropriate for the right room—European checks and stripes, Asian silks and damasks, the Caribbean's vibrant ethnic prints, as well as contemporary abstract and geometric patterns. The book is divided into style sections: floral, painterly, geometric, classics, silks, and tropical. The author draws on examples from her own designs to demonstrate the impact pattern has on the energy and mood of a room and how to use pattern with confidence. Included at the end are colorboards with hints and tips for designing. With stunning, original photography and a text rich in insights from the designer's own experience, this is a must-have compendium for anyone interested in contemporary interior design.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Impact of Patters in Interior Design January 22, 2007
Format:Hardcover
Tricia Guild is a world recognized expert on color and patterns. In this book she discusses the use of patterns used in interior decoration. These could be patterns printed on wallpaper, woven into fabrics, or embroidered onto fabrics. And the patterns selected have the power to change the look and mood of a room.

Many of the patterns she discusses are patterns that she has developed herself from the geometry of a brick wall, fish scales, the opulent riot of a floral bouquet, or the starry night sky. Her patterns vary from subtle to bold, from plain to complex. The illustrations in the book show the basic patterns themselves, and furniture or rooms where the patterns are used in upholstery or wall coverings.

This is Tricia Guild's eleventh book. Most of the others have concentrated on color or the overall design of interiors.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves opulent and original fabrics. Tricia Guild has an amazing gift of creating and recreating old well loved patterns into new timeless fabrics. The way the fabrics are displayed only prove her vision as a designer. Her imaginative creations will stand the test of time. She is unique and inspiring. I truly love this book, it is like a breath of fresh air.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty to look through June 18, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I did not find this book helpful. I thought it was going to explain how to mixed different patterns but it did not. It is a very visually appealing book and I now use it for decoration in my home. While the book is beautiful it is not helpful other then looking nice on my coffee table.

This is not the best of Tricia Guild in my opinion but it is nice to add to the collection of design elements she produces. I would prefer more visual language and less verbage.
