2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty to look through
I did not find this book helpful. I thought it was going to explain how to mixed different patterns but it did not. It is a very visually appealing book and I now use it for decoration in my home. While the book is beautiful it is not helpful other then looking nice on my coffee table.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Impact of Patters in Interior Design, January 22, 2007
This review is from: Tricia Guild Pattern: Using Pattern to Create Sophisticated, Show-stopping Interiors (Hardcover)
Tricia Guild is a world recognized expert on color and patterns. In this book she discusses the use of patterns used in interior decoration. These could be patterns printed on wallpaper, woven into fabrics, or embroidered onto fabrics. And the patterns selected have the power to change the look and mood of a room.

Many of the patterns she discusses are patterns that she has developed herself from the geometry of a brick wall, fish scales, the opulent riot of a floral bouquet, or the starry night sky. Her patterns vary from subtle to bold, from plain to complex. The illustrations in the book show the basic patterns themselves, and furniture or rooms where the patterns are used in upholstery or wall coverings.

This is Tricia Guild's eleventh book. Most of the others have concentrated on color or the overall design of interiors.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves opulent and original fabrics. Tricia Guild has an amazing gift of creating and recreating old well loved patterns into new timeless fabrics. The way the fabrics are displayed only prove her vision as a designer. Her imaginative creations will stand the test of time. She is unique and inspiring. I truly love this book, it is like a breath of fresh air.

You will not want to put this book down! If only I could magically transport myself to one of Tricia Guild's ethereal spaces...I would never want to leave. Opening this book is like taking a journey...it's an adventure in sumptuous fabrics, luscious colors and tactile textiles. Her patterns are romantic yet whimsical, and she masterfully juxtaposes modern and antique elements and motifs with themes of flowers and nature accented with candy colors! This book appeals to feminine sensibilities!

5.0 out of 5 stars tricia guild doesn't disappoint with this latest design tome, March 19, 2007

patricia guild has turned out yet another great compilation based on one aspect of design, this time pattern. one is immediately drawn in by the clever use of deep black flocking set against shocking pink on the cover. you just have to touch it over and over again. and once again, guild uses printed vellum over full color photography throughout, to punctuate her design ideas. this book is as rich in color as it is in pattern and texture and is truly a feast for the eyes from cover to cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gorgeous mix, October 7, 2010
This review is from: Tricia Guild Pattern: Using Pattern to Create Sophisticated, Show-stopping Interiors (Hardcover)
A book on a rich topic that's also a beautiful object in itself thanks to its saturated color, inspiring photographs, gorgeous vellum overlays, and even a bit of flocked texture on the cover. Guild is known for her use of color, but her earlier work and books often used color in unpatterned, or at least lightly patterned, ways; here, she dives into bolder patterns, and the result is just gorgeous. I especially loved her fresh, contemporary intepretations of traditional patterns such as florals, and also her juxtapositions of those fabrics with modern spaces and furnishings. Guild may be writing about patterns and textiles that have been around forever, but there's nothing at all fuddy-duddy about her use of them, or this book...whether or not you have the kind of wonderful high-ceilinged spaces that predominate here (I certainly dont!), you can learn much from how she mixes elements...and when you're done, just savor the beauty throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Luscious., November 3, 2009

This review is from: Tricia Guild Pattern: Using Pattern to Create Sophisticated, Show-stopping Interiors (Hardcover)
"Pattern" by Patricia Guild is an indispensable source of inspiration for those who want to incorporate different patterns in their home design. Any style - classic or modern; any colour combination: bright or black and white; and lots, lots of different patterns:botanical, pictorial, geometric. And, of course, very good advice on how to use it.
Pay special attention to two very interesting chapters:"Indian Inspiration" and "The Inca Trail". The book is richly, even lavishly, illustrated, using different kinds of paper, so it is not only pleasing to the eye, but also to the touch. After reading it you will go back and look through all the illustrations again. Keep it on your coffee table to let your family and friends browse and enjoy. It's an experience.
