Well put, good advice,
This review is from: Trick is in the Training, The (Paperback)
If you are considering buying this book do it! The tricks are easy to teach and the problem section on each one is very helpful. It even give some of the more traditional hand signals to teach your dog. It also explain when and how to cue and reward the dog. Downside, food motivation only but if you are a good trainer you may find other motivators that'll work with your dog. Excellent pics. Recomended for all those wanting to train/play with their dogs and show-off with their friends.

a neat little book,

It is not a terribly in depth training manual, but it shows you how to train some dog tricks. If you really want to train your dog to do tricks, in addition to this book, get a gook on raising and training a puppy. That will give you some insight into the dog and how to effectively train, and this book shows the actual methods for specific tricks, a chapter most training books forgot. All in all, it is a neat little book well worth $8.

Cleverly written so its easy to progress from trick to trick,

My dog is only eight months old and has learned most of the tricks in this book. It is well written by an author who obviously knows her subject from successful experiance. The way the photos and text are laid out it lets you easily move from trick to trick. The most important concept for me and my dog in this book is the use of the complete range of motivational techniques. My dobe can be bored to death with a half hour of treat training, but as soon as I pull out her toy, the "prey" instinct kicks in and she's good for fifteen more minutes of intense training. Thanks Ms Smith, you've got my respect!

This book of "Tricks & Treats" is a definite Must Have!,
This review is from: Trick is in the Training, The (Paperback)
This inexpensive entry into the canine training literature domain honestly seems too incredible to be true! Stephanie Taunton and Cheryl Smith have successfully enticed us into developing good manners in our canine citizens by appealing to our desire to "strut our stuff." And, they've done it in such an easy-for-everyone-to-understand-this manner. What is particularly noteworthy is their inclusion of those psychological behavior theory principles that are so critical to one's success with teaching such "tricks" or behaviors.

Clear and Concise,

I really enjoy using this book to train my dog. He already knows the basic commands including shake, spin, and roll over. The format of this book is clear and concise and the illustrations/pictures are excellent guides to training your dog the new trick. Although most of the tricks are quite rudimentary and you will find them taught in most other books, I just like the crisp editing of this particular one.

I am a dog trainer, and my clients love this book, have had two copies liberated. The pictures explaining the steps are wonderful. Great book, will buy another copy for clients. (This is a tricks only book, it is not about dog training classic commands, or raising a puppy or anything but tricks, other reviewers seem to miss that point.)If you can teach all 25 tricks, then you are a great trainer and your dog is having a lot of fun.
its fun to give my clients the book and see what they choose to train,, I get surprized all of the time. a timeless classic of a book, buy a copy.

It has so few tricks, I mean, 25?! Any other training book comes with so much more for around the same price! The Idiot's guide to Dog tricks has much more interesting, easy to learn tricks. My Smart Puppy is a great read too.
