I received this book as a gift, and couldn't be happier with it. I've read several of the Murder, She Wrote books, and found this one to be my favorite so far.

Jessica Fletcher is pulled into another mystery right in Cabot Cove. This is a Halloween novel, and deals with ghosts, legends, communicating with the dead, and stolen formulas.

All the action starts at a huge Halloween party given in one of Cabot Coves mansions, and progresses into the nearby cemetery. The characters have real development through the story, and following suit, the novel takes an unexpected turn at the end. This book is perfect for a cold night at home, and a big cup of tea.

Wow! I just got the book a few days ago and was not able to put it down. The writing is of the highest quality, and is a real "page-turner" from the very beginning. Jessica and Seth are planning to attend the annual Halloween party in costume, Seth as a military man and Jessica as "The Legend of Cabot Cove", setting up the reader for a fascinating tale! The book starts out promising a lot of intrigue, and it doesn't let you down! This is the best book I've read in awhile!

This was the best book in the Murder She Wrote Series. Jessica Flectcher once again proves why she is one of the best dectives in the mystery feild today.Why Cabot Cove prepares for Halloween and The Annual Paul Marshall Halloween Party, they must first deal with howling dogs, phones that will not work and the Legend of Cabot Cove. In this installment Jessica searches for answers when new comer Matilda Swift ends up dead. Many beleved Matilda was a witch but Jessica has another idea. Was this murder connected with another one a year ago, also on Halloween ? Now Jessica has a plan to unmask the killer, but will she also bring the Legend back to.Great Halloween Mystery.

Somehow New England and Halloween just seem to go together and like most New England towns, Cabot Cove has it's own ghost. According to Lucas Tremaine this "legend" is due to put in an appearance a few days after Halloween. Tremaine incidentally, was a psychic who had recently arrived in Cabot Cove and was hitting the locals up for two hundred bucks a pop to talk to their dead relatives. Also new in town was a woman with penetrating eyes and a black cat and she had apparently arrived in town from Salem, Massachusetts. A psychic, a legend and maybe even a witch, the perfect set up for a Halloween mystery.

Despite the somewhat unnerving new residents in the town and the tension they seem to be causing, most people are busy getting ready for the big Halloween party hosted each year by Paul Marshall. The big night arrives and Jessica arrives dressed as the legend herself while Seth is a Revolutionary War British officer. All of Paul Marshall's employees are dressed in moose costumes and everywhere anyone looks there seems to be herds of moose. Before the party is over, true to Cabot Cove form, a body is discovered and the sheriff, dressed as Davy Crockett heads for the scene. Once again however, it seems that Jessica does most of the detective work but then again, she always gets her man. Unless of course the murderer is a woman, in which case of course she doesn't get a man after all.

The characters in this story are for the most part the normal Cabot Cove residents and if you have read any of the books in this series or have watched the TV show they will already be familiar to you. The new characters might be just a tad flat, lacking the quirky personalities one comes to expect form the denizens of Cabot Cove. The biggest problem I had with this book though was the preemptive way that Jessica dismissed the whole idea of the paranormal. She comes across in most of these books as an open minded and fair woman but here she comes across as pretty arrogant. Still, in the end she does seem to realize that she might need to give her notion of accepted fact a little closer look. That ending is still another problem since you can see it coming from a mile away but there is no way the reader can solve the mystery of the killing itself until the answer is revealed. That is because evidence is withheld until the moment of truth, which is a tactic that is just not fair to the reader.

Still I must admit that I liked this book. In spite of the faults I have mentioned it was generally well written and it was a very enjoyable read. While some of the characters weren't fleshed out enough, others were very realistic and enjoyable. I also liked the idea of having so many people dressed in identical moose costumes, it made trying to catch the killer all the more difficult. The mental picture conjured up of Sheriff Crockett questioning first one moose and then another was also quite fun. Despite it's shortcomings this is still a pretty good book that gave me a good deal of pleasurable reading time.

This has been following suit with most MSW books. The characters are really one-sided, and Jessica is too. This story-line had a lot of potential, but it is plauged by one-dimensional beings. I would read a few more books in the series before picking this one up.

I was slightly sceptical about this book. The title seemed to point towards a more horrific book as apposed to one referring to crime, but now, this book retains the fantastic criminal theme of every Murder She Wrote before it. The chilling " Legend of Cabot Cove " is disturbed during a haloween party and as the legend arises, it brings too the most unusual of murders. This book will make you want to check every window and door in your house, it'll change how you live. The book is guaranteed to make you want to turn every page and you certaintly will: To miss it is a crime in itself! I wouldn't however, recommend it to younger readers of the series!

I just finished "Trick or Treachery," the best book in the Murder, She Wrote series. Each chapter is filled with quality writing and suspense. Other books that are similar to this one and which I am comparing it to are the Agathie Christie series and William Harrington's "Colombo" collection. "Trick or Treachery" is being highly rated to these other great mysteries due to good, quality writing and plot interest.

I really LOVE the MSW series, but this is a WEAK entry. None of the additional characters have any substance, to the point that the reader does not even care who/why the murder happened. There is also an unfortunate sub-plot of wanting to run anyone remotely different/new out of town, which also does not sit well with me as someone who has moved frequently.

The whole town ends up spooked when the alleged witch ends up dead in the graveyard, and everyone who went to the Halloween costume party is a suspect. Of course, Jess takes it upon herself to stir through a witches' brew of motives. It's a fun read and I think you will enjoy reading this book.

This is another great book by Jessica Fleatcher. The detail is once again perfect. I plan on reading more of these books.
