Format: Paperback
In Tricking and Tripping, Claire Sterk presents a close-up and sympathetic view of the world of street prostitutes - a world that has become much more dangerous since the advent of the AIDS epidemic. Sterk's detailed analysis of "the life" - including common pathways into prostitution, types of prostitution careers, the role of the boyfriends and pimps, the interrelationships between prostitution and drug use, and the ever present threat of violence - breaks new ground. This fascinating study makes a unique and important contribution to the ethnography of prostitution.
