"Shamy Candy. Eat it and you will be ashamed of yourself. This trick is extremely punishing", April 19, 2007
This review is from: Tricky Brains [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a pure nonsense movie where everybody just tricks eachother every waking moment and Stephen Chow is looking to become like the ultimate trickster. Chow tricks Andy Lau into believing he is his brother and proceeds to pull tricks on him for the next 30-40 minutes of the movie. When his shenanigans lead to Lau and him being fired, Lau finds out he won't be able to marry his girlfriend (Rosamund Kwan). Chow, Lau, and their dad (Ng Man Tat) now have to team up to get Lau back his girl.
While the movie is 100% comedy, not much more than half of it his funny. It never takes itself seriously, which really helps. Chow going out dancing in a spandex type outfit that says "I am naked" on the front is one of the many highlights. And the flying guillotine spoof was great.
The final trick-off is really weird and the movie drags along too much once Chow gets him and his brother fired. Not one of Chow's better movies, but not terrible.
2.5/5
The DVD from Mei Eh has very good picture and sound quality and the subtitles have a ton of translation errors.
