5.0 out of 5 stars How could you not like Judge Jules???, July 20, 2003

WOW about sums it up. This 3 cd album is full of hits from Jules' show during 2002. No, not all of them are great, but Jules sure as hell knows how to make a good album as most of them are ridiculously good. He is definitely one of the best mixologists/dj's going. If you like good house/club music, then this is THE album for you. I hope to god Jules puts out another Tried & Tested album next year. If you can't wait, check out his weekly show on www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 and you will need Real Player to listen to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tried and Tested? Yes! Its freekin top!, April 14, 2003

I had to write a review to this! Granted i am slightly bias as i think that Judge Jules is the best DJ since DJ SlicedBread! But really, if you are only going to buy one dance CD make it this compilation, 3 CDs of spinetingling, heartpumping, leg-twitching choons, from the latin vibes on the funky mix, to the popular tracks on the main mix and finally to the tried and tested club anthems every track will have you laughing and dancing like a loon!

One warning, you may not go out for several months after you buy this, why should you?? You'll have a top nite with these 3hrs of choonage!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Bag, January 11, 2003

This review is from: Tried & Tested: Mixed By Judge Jules (Audio CD)
"Tried and Tested" is composed of three mixes: The Tried and Tested Mix, The Funky Mix, and The Freaky Mix. Most of the review focuses on my favorite - the Funky Mix. Freaky & Tried and Tested tend toward trance and don't show the same inspired genius of Funky. In fact, it's only because of these other two CDs that I don't give Tried and Tested a full 5 stars.

Judge Jules busts out the funkiest of chunky house and weaves all the seemingly disparate strands together seamlessly. While it may seem pricey, the set is worth it for this CD alone (remember you're getting an import). Standouts on the album include Reckless Girl (Beginerz) (a toe-tapping juke joint jam), Fascinated (Raven Maize) (for the diva in all of us) and It's Something (Tomb Vira) (bringing some tribal beats into play). Each are incredibly unique tracks that nonetheless complement each other like white wine and fish. One of the best builds on the CD comes in a remix of Layo & Bushwacka's Love Story. Jules inserts a funky, slightly jazzy, ecstatic horn which brings the crescendo joyously home. You've heard these tracks at the club, no doubt, but you've never heard them like this. I guarantee at least three unconscious grins during the playing of this album.
