4.0 out of 5 stars Still Bluesy, After All These Years, March 9, 2004

Fans of Junkyard will be happy to hear that the band can still sing and play. "Tried and True" shows that the band hasn't come too far since "6's, 7's and 9's"; for what it's worth I found this to be a big plus. This CD is short at just 6 tracks (including a remix of "Simple Man") but showcases the bands' musicianship and ability. David Roach's voice has weathered the years very well and he does a fine job here. Sadly, the CD ends about 4 tracks too soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Junkyard rules!!, April 21, 2006

If you dig the backyard kegger sound of this band, don't miss their rarely seen two follow up albums titled XXX and Joker. A nice rare find for collectors, these two albums(a dozen songs each) are not demos, live cuts or throaway stuff - all pro recorded and some of their best stuff. Not sure why it was never widely released but it is out there.

Check 'em out!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Six The Hard Way, May 26, 2009
This review is from: Tried & True (Audio CD)
In 2003, that great, under-appreciated Los Angeles by-way-of Austin band, known as Junkyard, released a six song e.p. on Heat Slick Records. It features songs by every member of the band, both current & former. "Waste of Time," the title-track, and "Holdin' On" come from their '93 demo-session releases, "Joker" & "XXX." "Old #4" is in the same vein as their classic song "Simple Man," which shows up on this record in acoustic form. But, by far, the best track on this disc and the reason for buying this record has got to be "Fight." It has become one of my favorite Junkyard songs of all time. Chris Gates' dirty & bluesy guitar riffs are gasoline powered & David Roach's vocals are fantastic. And all Junkyard fans know how good Roach's lyrics & word-play can be. Well, he tops himself with the lyrics to "Fight." Some of his best lyrics ever! Junkyard fans NEED to buy this & fans of all bluesy, hard-rock bands (The Four Horsemen, The Almighty, Circus of Power, Dirty Rig, etc.) will want to pick it up as well. All hail the mighty Junkyard!
