1.0 out of 5 stars Beware: Amazon does not know what they are selling!
The meter is manufactured in the US by Alpha Lab. They make several versions of the instrument. Two notable variants are the 50 Hz calibrated one and the 60 Hz calibrated one. They are intended to be used in countries with the corresponding line frequency. One of the photos on the Amazon page shows the label on the back of the instrument, which says that it is calibrated...

How often do you buy a product that changes what you do?

I became aware of EMF problems because of a friend who has power lines just outside her condo. After considerable research, I bought the TriField meter as the best product for the money. BTW I found that it's slightly cheaper plus free shipping if you make an offer on eBay to buy it. This product is great! Clear directions, and measures all the stuff that's important.

Here's what I'm now doing differently:
1. I rearranged our TVs so the older high-radiation sets are in rooms we don't use very often.
2. I sit on the other side of the dining table when the living room TV is on (it radiates like fury in all directions, out to 6 feet distance).
3. I try to stay 6 feet away from the microwave oven when it's on (you would be amazed at the field strength it produces).
4. Whenever possible, I set my cell phone (iPhone) a foot away instead of in my pocket next to my body - every time it "checks in" with the nearest cell tower, there's a spike in RF radiation nearby.
5. I am aware that wherever there's a running motor, there will be fields in the immediate vicinity - up to a foot away. So don't lean against a running dishwasher, for example.

I highly recommend this product!

5.0 out of 5 stars A necessary device for health protection, April 26, 2009
This review is from: Trifield 100XE EMF Meter (Tools & Home Improvement)
I recently purchased one of the TriField EMF meters. I am a realtor and I had a client concerned about EMF from nearby power lines, so I decided to do my own test. Everyone has heard about the possible health threat from EMF. Any reading above 3 is not suppose to be exposed to for long periods of time. I checked with the power company and they stated the power lines were 12Kv which is low compared to high voltage transmission lines on towers. Wow, was I shocked and amazed. By the house and below the lines the readings were 15-20. I backed down the street away from the lines and I experienced high levels of exposure pass the second house on the block. We also recently purchased a massage bed and usually laid on it for 30 minute sessions. This too had extremely high EMF readings in the 20+ range. Forget about paranormal and ghost detection. Everyone should have one of these meters to see what they are being exposed to daily. With such high occurances of cancer and other diseases, I am going to do everything possible to protect myself, my family and inform the public of the possible dangers of EMF. If you do not already have a meter like this, buy one. I feel it is very important to your health and well being.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Device, June 7, 2007
This review is from: Trifield 100XE EMF Meter (Tools & Home Improvement)
This device works perfectly. Very good and sensitive for needs for health and wellness to know how much microwave radiation we are exposed to. Try turning it on near your microwave oven while it's running and see how far you have to back away to be safe.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you've come all the way to this page, stop pondering; just order it!, October 9, 2009

A rather unusual chain of events made me buy this device. It helped me in one major way and will probably continue to inform my behavior from now on. While nobody can tell what the effects of exposure to electromagnetic fields are, taking a chance with these when we worry about lesser things is not right.

So, here are the takeaways for the prospective buyer:

1) Get one of these when you live in a rental/condo (high density habitat)--you'll be surprised to learn what's behind those walls, don't wait to be shocked!
2) Get one of these, even if you have to borrow it, and check your house throughout to figure out what the EM hotspots are. Then think what you do on or near these hotspots and decide what to change (behavior or location)!
3) When you figure it all out, you may resell it!

Now, why have I written so imperatively? Because you need to know the facts that are obscured by the official line (no evidence, no repeat studies, no conclusive or even contradictory data, no statistical significance, no... need to worry) while all kinds of medical conditions, generically caused by environmental factors, surround us.

About the device itself I can say it seems to be analogical, it measures magnetic fields (on 2 scales, up to 3 milligauss and then up to 100 milligauss), electric fields, and radio/microwave. The manufacturer is also great at shipping it, thanks again!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Trifield 100XE EMF Meter (Tools & Home Improvement)
This meter is intended to detect electric and magnetic fields and microwaves. Solid red on the dial indicates where effects on the human body are supposed to begin.

I have discovered a lot of these. I now stay 6 feet away from any operating microwave oven, if I can. I have discovered that my Lexus RX300 produces a lot of electro-magnetic field, which is especially bad just above the dash. I don't know what a hybrid would be like if a regular gas engine car is this bad.

I got it partly to check on emission from nearby hilltop radio towers. I did not detect much from the towers' direction when nearby them, but did get the red zone from another direction. Maybe something was being directed toward them from another source.

The sensitive magnetic setting can pick up a battery powered watch ticking, when held right on it. Switching to the more sensitive magnetic range causes the needle to hit the right pin for a moment, however.

Looks like it was made in a garage shop, but overall I recommend it.
This meter seems to be a good compromise between price and features.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Stuff, May 25, 2008

I am glad that I bought this one. Even though there are different opinions about EMF, why should one take a chance?

I Kept the knob at 0-3 Magnetic and checked every corner of my house. You will be surprised to see some items like the flouroscent light emitting strong EMFs. I discovered some electrical outlets to be sending out more field than others (example of faulty wiring).
I even took it to my gym and workplace to ensure I am using (or around)equipments which are safe.

This was definetely a good decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Detector, But Shame On Me, February 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Trifield 100XE EMF Meter (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is an excellent meter and I cannot fault the device for my mistake. People who are working on a tighter budget will find this a very good purchase. But, Trifield has this same meter that has an audible alarm and a knob on the side to adjust the threshold for the alarm that makes it much more useful for just a bit higher price. That would have been a much better choice for me, but it isn't listed on Amazon. I also own the Trifield Meter - Natural EM that has the alarm function added.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware: Amazon does not know what they are selling!, September 26, 2011
This review is from: Trifield 100XE EMF Meter (Tools & Home Improvement)
The meter is manufactured in the US by Alpha Lab. They make several versions of the instrument. Two notable variants are the 50 Hz calibrated one and the 60 Hz calibrated one. They are intended to be used in countries with the corresponding line frequency. One of the photos on the Amazon page shows the label on the back of the instrument, which says that it is calibrated for 50 Hz, so not very good for use in North America where we have 60 Hz. However, that picture may have been uploaded by an end user, not by Amazon. When asked about which instrument they are selling, Amazon says that they do not know. To make matters worse, they were completely unable to grasp the difference. A crude analogy would be selling a thermometer without specifying whether it is calibrated in degrees F or degrees C. Would anybody buy?

Therefore, because one cannot really know if what is being sold for $120 is "appropriate", I rate 1 star. This is not a rating of the instrument itself but of the "undefined" product being sold.

5.0 out of 5 stars For you and your kids sakes, can you afford not to have an EMF meter?, December 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Trifield 100XE EMF Meter (Tools & Home Improvement)
Length:: 4:19 Mins

What I liked about this meter:

- The fact that its like three meters in one, you can so easily measure, electrical, magnetic and RF radiation
- The price, especially from Amazon, which is difficult to beat

What I liked less:

- It's a bit unfair to compare really but I have a dedicated RF meter which is far more sensitive to RF radiation and I have a separate electrical and magnetic EMF meter which also gives more accurate readings. But each of these meters individually cost more than the Trifield 100XE, so this meter really is outstanding value for money.

What is the Trifield 100XE capable of?

- Identifying the general level of electrosmog in your environment
- Measuring the EMFs in your household wiring
- Identifying hotspots in your home. You might have things under control in your own living space but if your neighbor has their WiFi router right next to your bed, the Trifield XE100 is going to tell you
- It will also tell you if the seals on your microwave oven are still doing their job
- Many of the new video game consoles, Nintendo Wii, Xbox360 use wireless technology to operate, you can now measure your exposure.

I know that for many people the first time they use this meter it's like a revelation. They suddenly become aware of the EMFs they are exposing themselves to. My revelation came years before I bought this meter. Unlike most people I do not need a meter to tell me when there are electromagnetic fields in my environment; my head already does this for me.

I have been electrosensitive since 2002. In the length of time it took to have a cell phone conversation I went from being very normal to being very electrosensitive. My body became highly receptive to the electromagnetic fields, particularly those of cell phones, in our environment to such an extent that my life became a living hell. My symptoms; a prickly sensation in my skin on the side of my body closest to the radiation source, a constant headache, joint pains, my ears ached and my eyesight deteriorated, I developed high blood pressure and lived in a constant state of fatigue. Thankfully since that time I have taken the necessary steps to be able to live normally again.

This is not the first EMF meter I have bought, but I bought the Trifield 100XE EMF Meter because I was interested to see how a meter in this price bracket compared to the other more expensive devices I had used.

5.0 out of 5 stars Might have saved my life!, October 22, 2010
This review is from: Trifield 100XE EMF Meter (Tools & Home Improvement)
Bought this meter after I realized that a place that I had put a bid on had a mysterious DWP box right outside my unit. I had read about EMF radiation re: transformers and power lines so I didn't know if this box was surging with dangerous electrical currents or what not so I decided to buy this meter and test it out. After I took the meter to the unit during my inspection period (w/ an inspector in tow), I found out that the EMF levels emanating from this DWP box was close to high voltage and pretty dangerous to anyone sleeping in the room opposite the wall where the box was leaning against. I love the meter for helping me personally determine if I was comfortable knowing that a room in my place had dangerous levels of EMF. (Obviously I'm not and backed out of the place!) Now I'm testing everything like the microwave, tv, computer, cell phones, etc (of which none were as close or dangerous to the EMF reading at that place!). This was helpful to a person who really didn't know much about EMF and I am grateful to have bought this device. Very easy to use.
