This review is from: The Trigger: A Novel on the Revelation (Paperback)
I always thought the Book of Revelation to be one of the most intriguing books in the Bible. After reading Mr. LaHaye and Mr. Jenkins "Left Behind" series my common sense said that having the rapture before the tribulation was an easy escape for Christians and not likely to happen. But that was just my feeling. Although my will was for that interpretation to be true, I believe that the theological line of Mr. Hoh is more likely to happen.

In this wonderful novel, Mr. Hoh describes the "behind the scenes" action in heaven (and hell) while our heroes play their part spreading the Word of God till the last regions on Earth, so the prophecy of the second coming of Jesus could be fulfilled. After preaching in Shanghai, Pastor Josh McGuire is arrested by security forces in the airport when he was leaving and he is conducted to the Ministry of State Security. Over there he meets Mr. Yang, the chief, and inspired by the Holy Spirit he removes the demon from the chief's body. The chief sincerely converts to Christianity and helps Josh to leave the country. While this happens on Earth, an intense activity is also happening in the spiritual world. After arriving in Australia, Josh talks to his missionary friend and touched by Jesus and Gabriel he leaves to preach in the last part of the world where Christianity was not introduced yet. With the participation of Michael, Gabriel, Apollyon and lots of other characters, you have a very intense novel that will keep you glued to the book until the last page is turned and the last word is read.

I recommend this book to the permanent library of any reader that enjoy a very well written novel.

This book was written by Mr. Hon S. Hoh and it was published by Living Impact in May, 2011 and B&B Media Group were kind enough to send me a copy for reviewing through their blogger book review program.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will Christians Suffer Through the Tribulation?, June 27, 2011
This review is from: The Trigger: A Novel on the Revelation (Paperback)
The Trigger, by author Hon Hoh is an interesting take on the tribulation period that will have many pre-tribulation believers grabbing their bibles to make sure they are right.

The novel follows three people: Josh - a Pastor of a huge church, Yang- a spy, and Scott - a missionary, as well as some angels and demons in the spiritual realm.

Josh, Yang and Scott are all convinced that they need to be holding a rally for the last unreached people on earth, but there are forces in the spiritual realm who don't want that to happen for obvious reasons - the people that become believers at this event will trigger Christ's coming. Something the devil definitely does not want to happen.

But other things are taking place as well and the world is in chaos. The members of Josh's church are sure the Rapture will happen any day, but now, convinced that he preached the wrong message to his parishioners in regards to the rapture, Josh is convinced Christians will now live through the tribulation and he has to prepare his congregation for news they never expected to live through - persecution by the Antichrist.

This novel is going to be a shocker for those with a pre-trib view. If you believe the rapture is going to happen soon, this book might even make you mad. However, if you have an open mind it might encourage you to pick up your bible and find out for yourself if the rapture is something that is really going to happen before the tribulation.

Either way, The Trigger will definitely provoke discussion and probably lead the reader to look closely at end-times scripture. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful, June 18, 2011
This review is from: The Trigger: A Novel on the Revelation (Paperback)
This is a terrific suspense novel written about the end times. The plot is taken from the Book of Revelation and the events could be mistaken for headlines in today's newspaper. Hoh takes the concepts and events from Revelation and writes them in such a way that even the Biblical novice or unbeliever can understand. I guess what makes this book so exciting is that it could happen in our world at anytime. There is much in this book about spiritual warfare and God's working in our lives. It was a great book and one to share with others.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good story...bad editing, June 17, 2011

This review is from: The Trigger: A Novel on the Revelation (Paperback)
Can my actions affect the timing of Christ's return?

The plot of this end times novel follows three men - an American pastor, an Australian missionary, and a leader in the Chinese equivalent of the CIA - as their paths converge to pull the "trigger" of Jesus' return: the reaching of the last people group with the good news of Jesus Christ.

The trigger idea comes from Jesus' prophecy in Matthew 24:14 - "And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come" (ESV).

The theology behind the book follows the "post-tribulation" timeline for the second coming of Jesus. It is the author's belief that the church will experience increasing persecution from the antichrist until the gospel has been preached to every part of the world and the Lord rescues His Bride.

Christian readers will cheer at every conversion from the beginning to the very end. While the story deals with sobering, apocalyptic themes, the tone is optimistic and centered firmly in the sovereignty of God.

SO WHAT?
Where do I begin with this book? This is one theologian's attempt at a corrective to the runaway success of the Left Behind book series, except from a "post-trib" perspective. To his credit, he truly wrote a tale, not a treatise. His primary challenge was to effectively distill the prophetic events of several years into a single novel, all while developing endearing characters and keeping the reader from getting lost or disinterested - a tall order for a freshman author.

Deficiencies in pacing and storyline are exasperated by inadequate editing. There are dozens of errors, primarily in grammar. I have marked up a good part of my copy.

If you are able to get past the distractions of poor grammar and uneven pacing, you will find a good story that forces the reader to face the uncomfortable question: "Am I prepared to suffer for my faith in Jesus?"

Thanks to B&B Media for the advance copy to review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Post tribulation Rapture, June 13, 2011
This review is from: The Trigger: A Novel on the Revelation (Paperback)
The Trigger A Novel on Revelation
By Hon Hoh
Published by Believers Press
May 2011

Josh the pastor of a large church in New York has been feeling God's pull on his heart toward worldwide missions, to reach the unchurched and underground churches in other nations. On a mission to China he is arrested and brought to the office of the chief of state security, Chief Yang. Through the leading of the Holy Spirit Josh shares the gospel with Yang and he is delivered of an evil spirit and accepting of Jesus as his savior, having to keep it secret from his country. These two along with Josh's friend Scott in Australia, are all feeling the call to the Great Commission in Matthew 28 ;18-20. Led by the Holy Spirit and circumstances the trio chooses Yangon a city in Myanmar as their mission field.

Set in 2032, the UN as we know it has repeatedly failed to "respond effectively to the three dominant issues plaguing the twenty first century: international terrorism, world trade, and the global environment". The UGF, United Global Federation is started, with the guise of treating these three issues, being used by Satan to bring about a one world order, using the President of France as the Antichrist.

The UGF targets born again Christians as the leaders of terrorism. The counsel seeks to outlaw `religious bigotry', and put tracking devices into all individuals (the mark of the beast).

The Trigger follows closely along with the book of Revelations, quoting biblical references. The book jockeys between the setting of heaven and the angels along with the Lamb, the realm of evil and the Dragon and his devils, and the physical earth and the people God has chosen to release the trigger.

I enjoyed the perspective given by seeing the spiritual realm intertwined in the story. To read what the archangels are staying and doing, along with the Devil and his minions. I could see the hand of God on the trio before they knew that He would be leading them. It was nice to have the inside scoop in the story. This was not like other books about end times in that it was not a pre-tribulation mindset. Backed with scripture Hon Hoh writes the novel with Christians living through the tribulation and not being raptured until the second coming of Christ.

The trigger was a fast paced, detailed read that was definite food for thought. The scenerio in the book will hopefully bring Christians to reading Revelation and impacting the world for Jesus.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read Considering Where We Are In End Times Prophecy!, June 1, 2011
By
This review is from: The Trigger: A Novel on the Revelation (Paperback)

Josh McGuire, Scott Cunningham and Chief Yang all have a very important role to play in becoming the Trigger for Second Coming of Jesus Christ. They will be the team that will preach the final message to the last group of people who need to hear the message about Jesus Christ. Their prophetic message is "Do Not Fail".

While the forces of good and evil battle unseen in the fulfillment of the age old prophecy found within the final book of the Bible, Revelation, we see the wrath of the trumpets and bowls being poured out upon the Earth in God's judgement.

Josh McGuire is the pastor/missionary team member of a vast church that has grown with God's blessing over the years. In between conducting underground church movements in China and other countries, he is faced with being arrested in China by Chief Yang, who controls the MSS or equivalent of the CIA in China. They have evidence that he knows the names of Christians and their underground churches in China. Without disclosing that information he will be placed in one of China's prisons. Seeing the opportunity to preach the message of Jesus to the Chief, he discovers that he has been possessed by demons for three years. Only when he is free, does Chief Yang become the newest believer.

Scott Cunningham works with his church group in Australia conducting missionary work as well, and when the three men converge through prayer, they are provided with God's last remaining remnant that needs to here the message of redemption. Only the enemy isn't about to let that happen. Under the guise of reorganizing the United Nations, French president Dominic Dubois, takes over leadership of this new group in hopes of restoring the economies of the world, eliminating terrorism, and providing hope to a fallen world. He becomes the anti-christ of the Bible and thus the prophecies of the book of Revelation come to life in the pages of the latest novel by Hon Hoh, The Trigger, A Novel on The Revelation.

This action packed book unveils the consequences of the trumpet blasts and subsequent bowls of God wrath being unleashed through the fictional story of the coming Apocalypse on Earth. Time is running out for the final few to make their decision for Christ or accept the mark of the beast and face God's judgement on man. While Michael and Gabriel work to help the saints on Earth along with a multitude of angels, Satan and his legion are about to make sure he prevents the Trigger from being unleashed.

This book rates a 5 out of 5 stars for me and I received this book compliments of B & B Media Group for my honest review. This is another great book that uses the events describe in the book of Revelation from the Bible and shows a possible way it could take place in a fictional way, much like the Left Behind series did. This one portrays the rapture of the church coming after the Great Tribulation and shows what could happen if believers are on Earth when God's prophecy comes to the ultimate fulfillment in the year 2035. I couldn't stop until I read the final page. It's that good and a must-read. Every believer and non believer should read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Trigger: A Novel on the Revelation, May 31, 2011
This review is from: The Trigger: A Novel on the Revelation (Paperback)
By Hon S. Hoh (Living Impact Inc., 2011)

Through a highly entertaining plot, this fiction novel displays the lives of three people emerged in a single mission during the end of time. Thematic elements thrive as the characters of this book maneuver around Good and Evil. This book gravitates off the Bible verse that states the return of Jesus Christ in Matthew 24:14. The front cover of this book is graphically appealing, lathered in gray and red peaks.

Through seventy action packed chapters, this book will entertain you until the last page. At the back of this book, there is a Questions for Books Blubs and Discussion Groups page. This book will indefinitely spark you to think about what the end of time will be like. Again, this is a fiction book; please refer to the Bible for actual descriptions of what God has told us about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, May 26, 2011
This review is from: The Trigger: A Novel on the Revelation (Paperback)
What an amazing book Mr Hoh has written, he put the Book of Revelations into a story that everyone can understand. The events that happen in this book sound almost like our world today...or at least the set up for the Book of Revelation

The story starts in China where Josh McGurie has been preaching in the underground Church. As he begins his journey home he is detained at the airport, and in an amazing twist Josh ends up riding the Chinese Official Yang of a demon. Mr Yang ends up being a supporter of the Word and helps in bringing it to the people of Yangon in Myanmar. He is now known as The Chief!

Another supporter is a Pastor in Australia Scott Cunningham who also receives a message from God to go you Yangon. As the story plays out the French Prime Minister becomes Demonized and appears to be the Antichrist, and he starts fulfilling the prophecy of Marking everyone for the Devil.
Even though The Trigger is an End of Times Revelations page turner, the author gives us a fresh concept interpretation to the Second Coming.

You will not be disappointed in reading this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Trigger, May 23, 2011
This review is from: The Trigger: A Novel on the Revelation (Paperback)

Pastor Josh McGuire is an evangelist and pastor with unction from the Holy Spirit for the most persecuted areas of the body of Christ. His ministry has been blessed by the Lord, and has been a blessing, for many years. His eyes are about to be opened.

There is a people-group, a term used by missionaries and evangelists to denote an ethno-centrically diverse and separate population of people that has yet to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. According to Matthew 24:14, the gospel must be preached to ALL nations, "and then shall the end come." The last people-group has been identified, and now all eyes are riveted on that portion of the world: all eyes, human and spiritual. It is the ultimate Amazing Race, and the consequences are universal in their ramifications.

Reminiscent of Frank Peretti's novels on spiritual warfare, and possessing the same action-packed suspense as the Left Behind series, THE TRIGGER offers a look at the end times from a unique perspective, that of the post-tribulation rapture of the church. In this eschatological framework, the church must go through the rapture, and the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is dependent upon Pastor Josh and the remnant preaching the gospel to the last unreached people group on earth.

While this reviewer has reservations with some of the theological stance taken by the author, THE TRIGGER is a wonderfully written novel that will keep the reader engaged from page one. One cannot help but become "one of the team" that is globally missional in its outlook, and Christocentric in its foundation.

5.0 out of 5 stars fresh interpretation to the End of Times Revelations, May 17, 2011
This review is from: The Trigger: A Novel on the Revelation (Paperback)
In 2032 Pastor Josh McGuire is in China preaching the Word to underground churches. He is a fervent believer that he rejoices that he converts the people to become children of God. Security forces arrest Josh; Shanghai Security Chief Yang interrogates the Westerner. Calmly Josh feels the Spirit moves him to rid the demon from his tormentor's body. A dazzled Yang is impressed by what his prisoner accomplished and converts just like his wife as a devotee of Christ.

Josh leaves China for Australia to meet with the missionary who told him that he has visions of going to Yangon in Myanmar. This is the last populated place on earth where the Word has failed to arrive. Josh touched by Jesus and Gabriel knows he must head to Yangon as he believes that is where the Trigger for the second coming will begin. The French president manipulated by Appolyon the demon leads the opposition trying to prevent the Word from reaching Myanmar even if that means millions of believers and non-believers die.

Although the Trigger is an End of Times Revelations thriller, Hon Hoh provides a fresh different interpretation to the final days. Instead of Armageddon occurring near Jerusalem, destruction is global at the same time. When called upon by God to bring about the Second Coming, Josh feels sort of like Moses as the wrong man for the upcoming trials and tribulations; he depends on his belief in the Lord to enable him to achieve the impossible mission. Sub-genre readers will relish Mr. Hoh's extrapolation of contemporary international relations with a unique but incise interpretation of the Book of Revelation.
